Faith Part I
Happily I kept hiking this trail, taking leisurely shots along the way, and sending some of them to my sister who I was texting while I was hiking. I felt as though I had stepped into Paradise. No wind, not too cold, and the quiet and the wonder all around me was just what I so needed.
Little did I know what lay ahead.
In turning a corner I saw a steep embankment which ended at the creek. Totally wrapped up in getting down that embankment safely, my eyes had yet to see what lay ahead. Standing at the bank of that creek, I was ready to cross it but was halted in my tracks. But where did the trail go, I asked? There were no footprints on the opposite bank, and I just knew the trail did not end here!! It just couldn’t!
Looking around for an explanation, my jaw dropped and an expletive flew out of my mouth! For before my astonished eyes, the trail now became the creek, and the only way to get to the other side I had to walk IN the creek to get there. So I did.
Carefully look at the left bank between the tree with the orange tag on it designating that yes this IS the trail and the branch bowed gracefully over the creek. Between those two points is a waterfalls not easily seen in this picture and the only way I could move forward was to walk on the bank. The only problem was only slippery shale existed with no ledge for me to put my feet on. You will see bare spots on the bank where hands were put to keep balance. I did the exact same thing as I kept saying to myself, I can get to that bowed branch and when I do I will hang on for dear life.
I cannot tell you how I walked the 15 or so feet between the waterfalls and that bowed branch, with nothing but wet slippery shale to place my feet on nor anything to hang on to. Sis, you do not want to know what was coming out of my mouth. I was really scared but SO determined not to fall into that creek!
Very slippery going, this is the part of the trail I have yet to figure out how to safely bring my Canon. Yes I did get to that branch and yes I did duck under it to get through because it was past the waterfalls. I continued walking IN that creek, so thankful I did not fall or slip. I turned another corner and saw this … a slippery almost vertical wall of mud, snow, and ice where the trail once again took the form of land. I took this shot as I stood IN the creek questioning my sanity. Or could it be I was very courageous?
Climbing up, I thought the worse was behind me! Whew! I did it and boy was I proud of myself for doing what I just did!! I felt elated! That lasted not long for the climb I was on was so steep, up and up and up I went, by the time I managed to get to the top, I texted my sister saying, Whoa!! My Heart is pounding out of my chest and I cannot breathe! As I looked down into a ravine that came into view with beauty that stole my breath (a wee pun), my breathing that was ragged gradually slowed down. As did my Heart rate! I’d say I climbed, wouldn’t you?? That’s the very same creek I had been walking in a few moments earlier!
Careful! Don’t get dizzy!!! I worked really hard in the editing room to get the sensation I felt as I stood at the edge of this cliff with my camera. Yowza!! And yes I was careful, leaving a good 2-3 feet between my feet and the actual drop off point.
Taking some shots, I stood on that spot for a long time, both to drink in the beauty and in getting my breath back. Ever aware of time, I knew I had to continue hiking this trail in order to get back home to feed my cats. And that is exactly what I did.
To be continued ….. Part III will be published on Thursday. (smile)

[Comments will be open. My curiosity wants to know your reaction to this post. I probably won’t be answering your comments or blogging today … just giving you the heads up. It snowed here last night and I must get some macro shots of the artistry Mother has given me to share with you. I also must prepare today my documentation for when we take two more of our precious cats in to see our Veterinarian tomorrow. My third and final post of this series I will have comments open and I will be blogging that day as well as answering your comments.]
So, what is your opinion so far? Have I lost my sanity or am I courageous? Tee hee ….
I can only see the first image, but that is absolutely stunning!!! 💖💖💖💖💖

Yes, I know. I used to always do that, but after my laptop broke and I started using an ipad for my blogging the links that are supposed to take me to the actual site does not work. I can’t open any blog sites from my reader or in the app ☹️

Ame, (LOL) I only had my phone camera. I don’t know yet IF I can carry my Canon with me on this trail. I’m working on it. The beauty on this trail took my breath away. I have one more set of photos while I was hiking on this trail. That will be coming on Thursday. It finally really snowed here and more is coming …. SO with the very cold temps I HOPE the creek you saw on this post will begin to freeze over and freeze good. The creek is the problem right now with me taking my Canon. I will NOT take chances falling with my Canon. ❤

PS I spent a LOT of time in the editing rooms to get these images looking as though taken by my Canon. Thank YOU for thinking they were! You have given me incentive to keep doing what I am in the “dark room”. (((HUGS))) ❤

My reaction? You’re a crazy woman, ha, ha! Amy, most people probably would have turned around and left. This shows a true dedication to your art and I’m proud that you went through it and not only have the satisfaction to say you did it but incredible shots to share. On the other hand, I’m always hearing about people who go missing when they are hiking and if that happened to you I don’t know what we all would do. Please be careful!!

Marissa, please let me reassure you that I turn my cellphone on to DATA so that in case I fall, the signal can be picked up. And yes I do have a signal in this park. Secondly, I carry a very bright light with me. And thirdly as you saw in the second photograph, MANY people use this trail so it would not be long before someone came along. I promise to be safe and not to use this trail again unless the weather conditions are pefect. OK??? And to be perfectly honest with you, it was my curiosity that kept me going. That and my sense of adventure. 🙂

Ok. I’m going to go ahead and say courageous as long as you promise to warm up and not get frost bitten. I absolutely love the path turning into the creek! I mean, it’s like an inside visualization of my inner path yesterday. This is just delightful.

Wow – Amy, just wow! The photos are amazing. I’m a little worried about your adventurous spirit dragging you into danger, but I appreciate the effort. Perhaps Trekking Poles are in your future. I bought a set last summer and I definitely like them and would want to have them on that “trail”

Been thinking about those, Dan. Which ones did you get? Those just may solve my dilemma with the creek. Temps have been very cold so the chances of that creek freezing are good. I won’t do this trail again until I know that creek is frozen. I really took chances on this hike. Yes, I really have an adventurous spirit yet I must maintain common sense. I am not in my 20’s anymore. That’s a given, even though I am in shape and strong. This body just doesn’t function as it once did. Yep! True! Part 3 will be just as thrilling as this post with more gorgeous pics, especially one. I promise!

I bought Black Diamond poles at Cabela’s Amy. I like them because they are easy to adjust and they came with the spike ends and snow baskets you can add in the winter. I’m looking forward to pt-3

Thank you Dan. I’m very familiar with Cabela’s. I will check those poles out. Part 3 is put together and ready. Thursday is launch day. I hope you won’t be disappointed after seeing today’s post. IMO my favorite image was the one of the creek. I don’t know if I will be able to top that. Well, that will remain to be seen. 🙂 ❤ Have a good night, and thank you once again for helping me out. I SO appreciate it!!!

Your little trip was gorgeous, Amy. 🙂 You have stepped into Paradise! How nice can be this, Amy… Reading your post looks like I was there with you. 🙂 I was scared to do not slip into the waterfalls… not to fall into that creek… I asked you if we are insane or courageous… It was beautiful, Amy 🙂

My heart actually skipped a beat when I saw that last photo, Amy. I probably wouldn’t make that climb in the summer, when the ground is dry – but in the winter, with snow and ice on it? Never! You’re a much braver photographer than I could ever hope to be.

WOW Amy for an amazing trip you had, so stunning beautiful and so very dangerous too. Please take very good care of yourself. When it is freezing you need to take even more care not to fall, the ice is even more dangerous to walk at, even it seems to be more easy to move around.
Much love ❤ Irene

awesome images. I have a stupid, maybe, question. I don’t have apple I products, but if your Reader device can open emails, could you not open images attached to emails?????????????? ignorance is my best virtue, but common sense says you should be able to do so. Or if able to open the same pics from Twitter or tumblr? just thinking, yes I know Marines are just supposed to DO, not think 👀 ♥ * ͜ * ♥ 👀 ᕙ(💓▿💓)ᕗ ͡* ♥ ͜ ♥ ͡*

Um, not really understanding. I open my email pictures through my email account .I usually do emails on my laptop or my phone. I only have an iPad that is apple, the other two devices are windows laptop and an android cellphone. I cannot open pictures on Twitter unless I post them, which I haven’t been lately. Does this answer your question, George? And you are far from ignorant! Please don’t say that about yourself! ❤

I was trying to figure out how the lady with the Ipad could get to your pics without her laptop. I’ve never had an Ianything. She seemed really put out that she couldn’t open your blog to view the others. I don’t like seeing people disappointed, well except for those girls from CAMbodia that only want my CC and my PIN

Oh now I understand!! I didn’t get that either, George. She said she coudln’t open any blogs on her iPad. I was going to suggest that she go directly to my blog but I didn’t want to push it. If someone wants to see my work bad enough, they would find a way. At least I would. As for those girls in Cambodia …. OH I can just imagine. LOL
