Cold’s Effects

  1. I love the sights you can see in the winter. You snagged some great ones, Amy. I think the beauty is a trade-off for the cold. No beauty secrets from me, sorry. My beard helps to keep my face from getting too cold, but that’s not much help for you 😉

    1. Let’s see if I can keep my positivity, Dan. If we are not blessed with an early Spring, this is going to be one long Winter. I love the effects the cold does have, yet I honestly can only take so much. As for that beard …. you gave me an idea! Thank you! Have a great day!!

  2. My beauty secret is to laugh as much as I can. If that doesn’t work, I bow to everyone I meet so the glare off the top of my head blinds them before they notice my wrinkles. I can’t even count how many people have walked into a wall while commenting about how much my face just glows.

    1. I was thinking more on the lines of Shea butter perhaps, deep moisturizing masks (which I have), which bring back to my face more elasticity and an ease from the tightness and chapping cold brings. Thank you on my pictures. And yes I really do know about how to stay happy ….. however, that doesn’t mean that happy will fix my skin. I wish! LOL Have a great day, Deeksha! xo

      1. You are really serious about the skin…
At my parent’s city winter is really cold and dry, so my mother used to keep a mix of glycerine, milk cream and lemon juice. We used to apply it before going to bed.It used to do wonder on skin!!

      2. Yes, I really am serious. You’ve given me great ideas here and yes I do have the ingredients. I’m not able to use cream or milk due to allergies so I think I will substitute Shea butter. Thank you!!

  3. Beautiful photos. Winter interest, as well call it, has a lot to it. So many things to find and photograph all year. I don’t have beauty secrets; however, I see two types of wrinkles in people’s faces: Happy Wrinkles for smiling, and frown wrinkles. Happy Wrinkles are always beautiful.

    1. If I can keep my positivity going throughout this entire Winter, I’ll be one very happy woman. Agreed about those wrinkles. I have a combo on my face due to living in chronic pain but having a happy heart. (smile) Happy wrinkles …. oh yes! Know all about those!

  4. AmyRose………you are so beautiful so maybe you should be sharing your beauty secrets with us! 🙂
I love your photos, especially the one with the tree with the stunning leaves with snow on the ground. The contrast is so comforting.

    1. Aw, Wendi! You make my face go warm. I’m glad you told me about the picture of the trees because when I stood there just looking I felt such peace and comfort. I’m thrilled that “sense” came through my photograph and you felt it as well. Hope you are well and have a beautiful smile on that beautiful face of yours. Much love to you!! xo

    1. When I put my magical eyes on, I see Winter’s beauty, Rob. However …. we’ve got a long way to go until Spring so, let’s see how long my optimism lasts. I HOPE it lasts. Deep breath!!

    1. Yes I do have Aloe Vera, Irene! Thank you for reminding me because I used it last Winter! I have Shea butter and almond butter both so those will be used as well. That cold just chaps and drys and makes my skin look terrible ….. hot shower then the magic ingredients applied which will enable me to wake up with soft skin again. (smile) Much love to you and thank you for the reminder about Aloe Vera! xo

  5. You capture the most amazing shots AR…Like the squirrel with his nut! A snapshot of that moment in time. BTW….coconut oil is the best skin softener…It heals while it moisturizes. I also use aloe vera gel after every face washing…Works wonders… Stay warm over there. Hi to everybody…Hugs to you ❤ VK

    1. Aw, thank you, VK! I’m thrilled you enjoyed this series. Getting acclimated for this cold stuff and changing how I look at things hasn’t been as difficult as I thought it would be. Coconut oil …. I use thick coconut cream on my face twice daily with an oil underneath. I’m going to be adding Aloe Vera as well. I completely forgot about Aloe Vera …. I used it all last Winter and yes I know it works. This thinning skin gets more challenging to keep up with as you well know. I’m staying warm. You stay warm too!! (((HUGS)))!!! xo

  6. Autumn in those tree’s are still fighting to stay and shine Amy 😀
And I’m standing here in 30C heat looking at your snow and ice and it does not compute 😀
Love the pictures dear lady, you are excelling in each trip you take. Imagine the genius you will create when you take the right boots 😀

    1. Yes, Mark, it really still IS Autumn here. This snow is wayyyyyyy too early. Thank YOU for telling me I’m excelling. I am just doing what I am led to do, that’s it. I wish I could spend hours upon hours in this forest …. I just do not tire of it at all and not only the wonders I see but the everlasting peace I experience is a huge tug on me to stay. SO glad you enjoyed these series. Much love to you!! xo

  7. Such beautiful photos, Amy. Love that squirrel but also that white fluffy flower (or how to call it).
Try this facial masque out: One tbs ground coffee mixed with approx. half a tbs yogurt (you can also reduce the yogurt a bit and add some honey). It shall become a paste that is spreadable but not too runny. Leave it for about 20 minutes and rinse it (massaging your skin a bit). Best is doing this in the morning. But you can also put pure honey on your skin too.
You can also massage coconut oil into your skin or evening primrose oil. If you add some drops of essential geranium, patchouli or/and sandalwood oil you make it an anti-Aging oil. 💖

    1. THANK YOU for the facial mask remedy, Erika. I was actually thinking of using green tea and now here you are saying coffee. Both have anti-inflammatory effects. Hmmmm …. Interesting. Instead of honey I will be using Aloe Vera on my skin …. I respond better to Aloe Vera. And I’ll be applying a mask after a hot shower …. yes I’ve thought about this a bit. SMILE. Yes I have geranium and patchouli and sandalwood. I’ve used lavender and rose EO with good results. Just passing on to you some of what I’ve tried. Bless you passing onto me your secret to beauty. (((HUGS))) xo

      1. Oh, yes, those oils are absolutely working well too. They are anti-aging and regenerating. Green tea works very well too, since it is antioxidant. The caffeine in both coffee and grean tea gives the skin a “wake-up” boost. I like the ground coffee because it has also an exfoliant effect. I do the coffee-honey-yogurt remedy on the weekends in the mornings. The skin feels so soft, smooth, and firm and it has a rosy glow.
I experiemented a lot with aloe vera and also applied it at times (like castor oil btw.) without rinsing again.
I am using these and other ingredients for my soaps (facial, body, hand). It is wonderful to experiment with the powers of nature. You know, I am an aromatherapist ant therefore a perfect way to expand.
Thanks for sharing your experiences, Amy 👍💖

      2. Erika, I think I will try the green tea first. My skin really doesn’t require an exfoliate. I use Shea butter for my bar soaps and I absolutely love it! For years I worked on a body butter and finally gave up. I never could find a decent base. I LOVE EO’s! I use them all the time. You are so welcome for the sharing and I thank YOU for your tips. I plan on linking this post with my next so that anyone interested can scroll through the comments to get beauty tips. I was going to do each beauty secret and who gave it one by one, but I honestly don’t have the time to do so. Much love to you and have a great weekend!! xo

      3. As far as I know you, I am sure your gut will lead you which makes you find the perfect ingredient(s).
I am using shea butter in all of my soaps and depending on the purpose of the soap other fats or oils like avocado, raisin, and much more. I just discovered again nigella oil. A great oil for all kind of skin needs and highly antibacterial and anti-aging. Once you dig into the matter you see how much more there is… lol
It is a wonderful idea to make the comments a collection of beauty tips. Awesome!!

      4. I’ve discovered Argan oil, Erika. I use it directly on my face. Shea butter goes on when I go outside. Cream just does not cut it. Oh yes there are so many choices and we must remember every “body” is different. What works for one person may not necessarily work for another. Not only am I going to link this post to my next one, but I will make a new page titled, “Beauty Tips” and link this post to that. SO much information is contained in the comments!! Have a great weekend!! xo

      5. Yes, so many different options and it is to find out what works best which again can change over time. I heard and read about argan oil but have not used it so far. You made me curious.
Ah, very good idea with your new page for a big exchange of thoughts 👍

  8. Lovely photos! Winter light can bring wonderful photos. My beauty tip that I’ve used for several years now, and swear by is coconut oil. I buy it at the grocery store and costs about $8.00 USD. Simply use like a moisturizer at night. It comes in a jar, is not liquid. I am 72, and people think I’m in my late 50’s. Works for me!

    1. Thank you, Angeline! I swear by coconut as well. My facial moisturizer is coconut. I have several different oils that I rotate for certain occasions, coconut being one of them. And good for you for looking so young. I would bet your diet has a lot to do with it too!! I know mine does.

  9. A great setof images Amy, it must have been cold out there. I love the tree image. If you have the money La Mer is very good. I have used it but can’t afford it anymore. I have been using Nutrimetics for years and still do, have tried most of everything else and they don’t do much.
Hope you find a good cream soon.

    1. Thank you, Karen! I do have a good cream now. The problem lies in that when I am out in the bitter biting cold winds, that is when my face requires more. Many have given me their tips here, and I picked up a lot that I will be using. My next post I will link back to this one so that anyone who is interested can scroll through the comments. Much love to you! xo

    1. Aren’t those dormant flowers gorgeous, Frank? I so enjoy taking pictures like the ones seen in this series when it is cloudy outside. The lighting effects are quite surrealistic at times. Thank you so much for the compliment. SO happy you stopped by to enjoy my gallery. And about having no beauty secrets …. you’re a guy. LOL No problem.

  11. I have the vaguest of memories that men who work on trawlers in extreme winter conditions have special creams for their face to protect them against the effects of saltwater and cold. This might be worth looking at.

    1. Hmmmmmm …… I just bought kelp and perhaps I can mix that in with my night cream. I have seen creams from seaweed and have been intrigued. Now I’m just going to have to try the one I saw. LOL See what you did? Now I have to buy another cream! According to my husband, I’ve got way too much as it is. He’s a guy. I’m a gal. BIG difference! LOL

      1. Hey, I’m online now, rare as that may be these days. Just gotta say that I tried LAST night, getting wet a green tea bag and squeezed a few drops into an empty cosmetic jar. I then mixed that with my coconut cream and boy my skin on my face looks wonderful today. Cool beans!!! LOL The eternal fountain of youth …… (wink)

      2. Agreed. I find it difficult however, to sit still. The more I sit the stiffer I become and my pain goes up. Bummer. But I do it anyways so that I can keep my momentum in the oncoming days. (smile)

      3. There are days, Colleen, that my energy is gone. Those are the days I am on my love seat, laying down, with my feet above my heart, watching good movies or series. Even reading a book is too much effort sometimes. Ahhhh, you get about the sitting ….. I could never have had an office job even before my back injury. Just not the sitting type and now it’s even worse.

  12. Hey Amy! Lovely photos!! No secrets really, just noticing how my body has significantly changed post menopause. It’s weird. All I do is use coconut oil on my face after a shower. I don’t do anything else – never have though. It is a very weird, challenging time in a woman’s life. I get it my friend!!! Much love, Donna

    1. Thank you, Donna!! There are a lot of suggestions in the comments in this post and yes I am going to use some of them. I think with my next post, I will link this post to my next one and encourage anyone interested in beauty secrets to scroll through the comments to get some tips. I use Argon oil (100% Pure) under my coconut cream and that really really works. I’m going one step further and doing masks on those days I’m outside. Yeah, isn’t it wonderful what menopause does to the skin? I eat a LOT of blueberries and take horsetail powder, both excellent for the skin. I get my horsetail at Mountain Rose Herbs, buying the herb itself and then grinding it into a powder to put into my smoothie. My skin and hair and nails thank me! Aloe Vera as well I’ve reincorporated into my beauty regimen. By that I am talking two minutes tops ….. I don’t have time to lollygag. (smile) May you have a great weekend. I’ll be working on my next post which will probably be up some time next week. Much love to you! xo

    1. Ah, thank you for the reminder, Emma. You must not have ever experienced the biting bitter northern winter winds because they honestly do a number on your face. Oh do they hurt! I normally do not wear foundation either. In the Winter however it is a different story. You be well too!! xoxo

      1. Amy, actually I lived in Chicago all my life except this past year. I hate the hot Sun and humidity, it does a number on your skin. In fact, I noticed a couple dark spots on my face that I didn’t have. Hopefully they go away when I head back North.

As for the cold, it actually is great for collagen production. In fact, I saw on YouTube some young gal using cold therapy on her face for that specific reason. So enjoy some cold on your face. Use what I said in the beauty section. Btw, I think the North has helped with my skin.😁 humidity and sun will open pores and get dirt in and the strong Sun in the South is worse than the North. Rest well.

  14. Gorgeous shots! I love the berries, the birdie, and the squirrel best 🙂

Emu cream and Elf primer (the pink, I like the pink one). And you know, if it’s crazy cold, dry, and windy, I just go right for the coconut oil. I have plenty of fat on my face, I’ve got cheeks for days, but still, I apply the fats like it’s my job. As you know, exfoliation becomes increasingly important, and we can’t be walkin around all ashy and itchy, stinging from windburn.

    Liked by 1 person

    1. SO happy you enjoyed my gallery, Joey! Thank you for telling me! I too do coconut oil. Keep applying those fats to your face ….. post-menopause you will loose a lot of that fat on your cheeks …. sorry. Keep up the good job with your skin care cuz you will be thanking yourself in the coming years, believe you me. Emu cream and Elf primer …. I have not tried them. I do have a primer that I put under my foundation that is oil based which I do like so I get it. Exfoliation I honestly don’t do anymore …. yep, my skin is just so thin. I use a very gentle coconut milk cleanser which works for me. As for that biting wind ….. oh boy do I understand in spades. Lots of suggestions in the comments both on this post and found now on my menu plus what I use on my face. I like to rotate my products so that my face doesn’t get used to something which no longer seems to work. I mix my applications up except for my coconut facial cream. Lots of experimentation with other products though. Hope you have a great Monday! xo

  15. Hi Amy, I am confused as to which photo is lovely. All of them are fabulous, esp the squirrel. As for beauty tips, add a few drops of rose water in cold milk and apply it in your face (works for sensitive, oily and dry skin as well). Alternatively, grind basil leaves, apply them on the face and wash after 10 minutes.

  16. beautiful pics and I laughed at the part of immediate aging! My skin too has gotten so thin and wrinkling in the last year! The car mirror does not sugar coat a thing! haha! I use coconut oil, and rose argon oil-all natural tinted moisturizer I make myself-and I still look like an old lady . . but a happy one!

    1. Michele, I too use argon oil which I absolutely LOVE! My skin just lately has been very iffy with the weather so I have been taking extra care of it. As for wrinkles …. we’ve earned those, and they IMO are beautiful! This country is so focused on youth that the brainwashing goes something like this …. to get old is ugly. No way Hosea!
I have put this post on my menu with the title “Beauty Tips” because there are SO many beauty tips in the comments that others have left. I know I have picked up some tips!! I hope you had a great day today! Much love to you! xo
