    1. I went last week, Van, and am now safely at home. I think this is one photo shoot I will not be repeating again. I can say I’ve done it and that’s enough. Parts 2 and 3 will be coming shortly. Hope you are having a good day!!! 🙂 ❤

    1. Scott, seriously IF you saw how steep and how deep this ravine is, I think you would change your mind. As it is we saw some young male fools climbing the shale waterfalls where the Eternal Flame is. It may be age but I no longer am willing to risk my life just for fun. 🙂 ❤

    1. The story just gets better, Marissa. 🙂 We photographers may be classified as “crazy” because many times we do take chances just to get some truly beautiful shots. I’m tough, my friend, and strong AND very determined. Yet to be truthful I really questioned what in the heck I was doing that day!! 😉 ❤

    1. Exactly. It was not marked well at all, Erika, and the only way we found it was a trodden path. Look closely along the edge of the creek. That is where the path is. 🙂 ❤

  2. Wow for a hike Amy, I’m happy to hear, that you survived without the big damages. I had not been able to hike with you down so bad ravines. Up yes, but not down, my Osteoarthritis would have protested to so tough a hike.
Even I walk for hours daily in a tough terrain, I would not have been able to hike here with you.
Your photos are stunning and amazing, just don’t risk your life for a great photo, we need you here.
    Much love ❤ Irene
I'm looking forward to next chapter.

    1. Irene, it is going down that bothers me as well. Ever since my back adjustment the muscles around my knees that had not been used properly have made themselves known. I just have to keep on using those muscles to get them strong. I had really wished I had brought my trekking poles because they would have assisted me greatly especially going down. All my discomforts and fears were totally worth this trip, one though I do not plan on going on in the near future. 🙂 SO glad you enjoyed this pictures. We literally walked into another world. Part 2 should be posted on Thursday. It is completed and just waiting to be published. Much Love to you, Amy ❤

    1. I did, Laura, yet not without some “surprises” which I will share in part 2. Part 3 is all about what I saw on the way back to the truck. I can say I did this, yet will I go again? I don’t think so! Going down was excrutiating on my knees. I pray to God that this is only temporary and is caused by the back adjustment I got about one month again. Since then I am using leg muscles I haven’t in years. Keep your fingers crossed my knee problems clear up. And yes, the scenery at this place was breathtaking. Wait until you see part 3! You are not going to believe your eyes. I couldn’t and I was there! I think I stepped into Alice Land. 🙂 ❤

  3. Wow what beautiful pictures but my heart was in my throat with the suspense. The ravines look so deep and signs and warning were accurate. Glad you both made it safely. I will look forward to Part 2! Hugs ❤

    1. Hi, Kathy! Yes these ravines were steep and sheer. There was actually a part of me saying all the time … I cannot believe I am doing this. Yes I did make it home safely thank goodness! Every year people die in this park and my guess it is in this ravine. I actually saw some very foolish young boys climbing the falls where the Eternal Flame is. No room for error and one slip is certain death or at the very least crushed bones. I think back and ask myself was I ever that foolish? Anyway … Another wonderful day here for me to get out to my gardens. Part 2 is finished which I hope to publish on Thursday. I’m shocked though for my entire history of blogging, I have not ever seen blogging this slow. Are people getting fed up with WP? I couldn’t blame them if they were. Hope you have a great day!! ❤

      1. So glad that you made it safely, my friend. I know some kids have no fear but don’t remember being that crazy. Maybe we were but don’t think so, Enjoy the time in your gardens. We had rain last night and was wondering how my little plants fared. I am rooting (pun intend) for them 🙂 I too have noticed the slowdown in blogging overall. Wouldn’t be surprised if they are fed up with WP. I know I haven’t blogged as much but been busy. Have a great day!!! <

  4. In all the times I visited that park – when I was much younger and much more fit – I never once went down to the Eternal Flame. That sign alone was enough to stop me. Be careful in there, Amy.

    1. That sign almost stopped me, CM. Really. I stood there examining my sanity whether to continue or to turn around. I was really having a lot of trouble with my knees that day and going down was excruciating. I can now say I’ve seen the Eternal Flame, but do I plan on going back? No. Once is enough, dear friend. Even with my hiking legs 100% I won’t be going back. It’s just too rough, at least for someone my age. I got the pictures I wanted to and so I have enough wisdom to say enough. ❤

    2. And oh, while we were on the trail we saw a young woman with her little girl about the age of 7 and another young woman on the trail with a baby strapped to her chest. What am I missing? OMG!!! I wouldn’t dream of taking children much less a baby down into that ravine. That is complete insanity. That trail is downright dangerous! I honestly don’t understand how some people think. I was so shocked I felt like “pinch me” I’m really not seeing this.

      1. That certainly is scary. I’ve noticed that the young parents today aren’t raising their kids the same way we raised ours. Heck, I can recall going down the steps at Devil’s Hole and having a death grip on my 6-year-old’s hand. For that matter, I had a death grip on her hand at Three Sisters Island because I was terrified she would get too close to the water.

    1. LOL When I saw that “last shot” in real time an expletive flew out of my mouth. I could NOT believe I had to get through that mess in order to continue on the trail. There is a lot of debris on this trail and it is very poorly marked. I’m so glad I was with my husband. ❤

    1. SO glad you enjoyed the efforts of me risking my life, Olga. LOL I laugh but at times it was downright scary! Part 2 hopefully will be published on Thursday. I have yet to complete part 3 although I have chosen the images I want to be on the post. I have to edit those and write up the post. And do everything else in my Life as wll. 😉 LOL ❤

    1. Karen, this is one adventure I can say I’ve done but I will not be repeating. Even with 100% hiking legs intact, nope, not repeating this one. I’ve seen it, got the pictures I wanted and now on to my next adventure. 🙂 ❤

  5. OK – where to start? I love the photos. I understand what you did and why you did it. I am SO glad you didn’t get hurt. Hiking this time of year is full of surprises, Amy (I know, you know that). I am glad you continued and I am glad you continued to look behind you 🙂

      1. LOL Exactly. What a dummy! I was SO focused on just getting there …. The thought did enter my head to wear the vest but nooooooo I rationalized I wouldn’t need it because I had my backpack. Duh! I now have a list of what NOT to do on a photoshoot. Hehehehehe

  7. Oh, Amy! I love the humor in your story. I couldn’t help but chuckled while reading. 😀
There’s a reason why they put all those signs up simply to warn people. But, I’m glad you continued ( I probably wouldn’t have said this if I didn’t read or see Part 2 of your story :D).

Anyway, your adventure reminds me of the adage “Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations”. And this post (all Part 3) can attest to it. I’m going to read Part 3 now. Thanks Amy. ❤

    1. You are welcome, Anna. Yes my sense of humor has kept me going, in more ways then you know. I have a habit of laughing at myself and at life just to keep things light. I’m giggling as I write this. True. And I really can relate to that quote you left. Oh yes, I do have a way of traveling the road less traveled. LOL 🙂 ❤

    1. I never cease to amaze myself, Chris, yet this time the fact that I no longer am the youth I once was, has made me very aware the more difficult trails I’m not willing to do anymore. I’m really happy I captured the photos I did but now I will move on to the next adventure. 🙂 ❤
