And thank YOU for your Loving words of encouragement to me! Without you and all the others who are rooting me on, I don’t know if I can be as strong as I am right now. (((HUGS))) Amy

Stuff a good book to inspire is made of. IF that day ever comes I do write my book … I will know. (smile) Until then, I keep doing what I do both in my Life and at Petals. Love, Amy

Can you copy all of your flower photos that posted in WordPress? Would that help? Hugs, hugs..

    1. All of my flowers in WP are on iCloud, Indah. But not the originals. I lost those. The flower today that you see is from my Media Library. So I have lots of flowers to choose from there and with my new knowledge of PS and LR, maybe I can learn how to make them look different. I’ll see. I take each Moment as it comes. (((HUGS))) Amy

  3. Amy, have you ever looked into either Carbonite or Dropbox? Both are off-computer storage options, and you can access them from any of your mobile devices. I have Dropbox (it’s currently full!) and Kevin and I are considering Carbonite. When we leave home for any length of time, my thumb drives are locked in a fireproof box. Just a few things to consider…..so happy to see you cheerful and with plans to go forward! Big hugs and love to you!

    1. No, Celia, what you have suggested is new to me and I will look into it. I also plan on buying either a fireproof safe or put my HD in a safety deposit box. When I back up, I plan now on doing it twice, one on one HD and another back up on another one. And only when I KNOW 100% sure that both back ups are complete that is when I will clear the files from my computer’s HD. *sigh* So much to consider!!! But I will never go through this again. It is devastating! (((HUGS))) Amy

  4. Your plan is a great one, Amy. Back in the photographer’s stance and build up a new collection, stored in a better drive forever and ever, my friend. And may your hubby come through with his part of the plan, too!

Any nursery or store would be nuts not to allow you to take pictures of their product. You could say thanks by publishing their name here. Goodwill and karma by word of blogging network goes a long way in this life of ours. We’re with you, friend. Hugs from Syracuse. — MB

I just returned from a nursery who did allow me to take pictures and I got as many as I could in the time I could afford. Yes, I have begun, my friend. I have yet to decide which HD to choose, but you can bet on it, it will not be what I did use. That is for the circular file bin. (GRIN!) I really am so moved by your email and what you offered. I honestly don’t know what to say other then thank you, and IF these companies were not thieves, I would have accepted your offer and gone through with your idea as well. In fact, I was just thinking about you and wondering what happened this morning when I woke up, although I know that probably seems very small compared to all those people who reached out and actually offered help. Just couldn’t think of anything I could do. Anyway, so sorry you lost your babies, but it sounds like other people’s kindness have you on the road to recovery. Good luck with your shoots today. I have calmed down, but yesterday being the emotional woman I am, I cried my Heart out. This was a huge loss to me for the entire time I photographed this entire year, in the back of my mind was to get as many photos for winter to put on Petals. Now those are gone, but starting today I have again begun to find flowers. This time of year is really hard because the flowers are dying back due to our cold season coming in. So I go to places I know where there are flowers. Nothing like my Summer flowers, but I did find flowers. Thank you for your support. (((HUGS))) Amy

I know that it isn’t the same as the ones that you lost. Couldn’t believe the cost that they quoted you to retrieve them. That is outrageous. Hope your husband can create a miracle. One thing that we are considering doing is using “idrive” to back up our hard drive. I think the cost is $10 a month. Just a thought. Sending warm hugs and love and glad that my comments helped. ♥ xoxo Kathy

    1. When I get my new laptop, I am considering doing that very thing, Kathy. I have iCloud on my iPad right now which has all my work backed up but NOT originals, which were on this HD. I have returned today from shooting about 3 hours worth of flowers at a nursery that gave me permission to do so. Today I again ask at our grocery store and another one that is close by. 2. If it were not for you, Kathy, I wouldn’t have known about iDrive. But I had heard somewhere that there was a way to back up photos on Windows, like you can with a Mac. Someone also suggested Flicker, which I know nothing about either. There is only so much brain room to wrap my head around all I have to know. I am taking these suggestions very seriously. I already know which laptop I am getting, and if my husband doesn’t order it this week, I am. I really need an excellent photography geared laptop so that I can get PS CC and LR on it, both programs I have paid for through Creative Cloud. The PS CC will not run on my iPad, but LR does. I have one at least out of the two. I wasn’t joking when I said a while ago I am on a major learning curve with my photography, and that just right there is enough to make my head spin. I LIKE the idea of iDrive because it will save me an external HD. I am not able to get iDrive now because I only have Windows XP right now on a laptop that is a dinasour and really outdated and VERY SLOW. But I still plan on having an external HD as back up to keep in a safety deposit box. Maybe it’s overkill, but I will never go through this again, Kathy. Lesson learned. ((((HUGS))) Amy

      3. That’s why we like it also. My boyfriend has XP and I have Windows 7 Professional on 2 different computers and i-drive allows you to store from both computers and if you have anything else with just 1 account. I don’t think that it is overkill and don’t blame you in the least. I have a friend on FB that uses Flicker and believe it’s offered through Yahoo. He has had issues with people copying even though he has it marked as copy-write. Also sometimes has trouble when it’s down. HUGS Kathy ♥

      4. Nix Flicker. That is one down. I am looking into iDrive today, Kathy. I am assuming it uses your HD in the computer. If that is the case, I must wait for my new puter for the HD space on my old dineasaur (spelling?) has been a huge issue. When we spoke to our computer whiz, he said it is not worth buying more RAM but instead buy a new laptop. I have one all picked out and by next week, hopefully I will have it. So many wonderful people have come forth with suggestions on how to store my photos. Thank YOU for making my life a little less complicated by telling me about Flicker. No thanks. 1. No, no one has suggested this, but I will write this down, and seriously consider it. I am not a big fan of HD’s anymore, so I am looking at alternate ways to back up. I have several CD’s that I stored photos on, and I really like the way my data has been stored. I didn’t know about Dual layer DVD’s. I shall look into it. I really do thank you for your comment and your input. If it takes just one drop of a HD, which in reality is not too far fetched to happen, for that HD to be damaged, there has to be a better way. I’m looking into Flicker, iDrive, Flash Drives, to name a few. Also over at Leanne Cole’s site there was a post about this very subject last week with a ton of information that I still have yet to look at. Again, so much Gratitude to you. I am looking at iDrive and then some external devices to store in a safety deposit box. Lessons have been learned. Love, Amy

      1. Sorry to hear that you lost so much of your art, Amy 😦
In the days of film, when you processed it and stored it safely it last for a long long time.
Now I just buy memory and never erase it, One storage. 2nd storage is go to Cosco and make a Kodak disk. lasts a long long time. And 3d storage is a external hard drive. I never count on any cpu. Plus digital is just a magnet away from erasure.
        Hope this helped.
Mf is the preferred way to get what you really want in focus, in my thinking.

They say Beets eaten opens up the pathways to brain cells. So with that thought I send intention that all your next photo’s will be inspired works of art!!!!

      2. Michael, I think the way I am going to go is this: Dual Layer DVD’s, iDrive, iCloud. I am no longer a fan of HD, but if I can find one that has an extra port just in case I run into trouble and need the photos accessed, I will get that. The way I shoot, I will be spending way too much money just on the ScanDisks to use to store my pictures. And I am not able to format, making files for easy access either. I shot over 800 images in 2 days, just to give you an idea how much shooting I do. Leanne Cole has a very indepth post all about HD’s which I intend to read and to also go through all the comments before I decide which HD to buy IF I do. This was a tough loss, BUT what I am now creating has an added dimension to it for each photo I really think about as I manually bring into focus what I want in each image. My style has changed it seems overnight. Thank YOU for your vote of confidence in me. It is people like you who motivate me to keep on bringing to Petals the Essence of my Heart and to keep improving as well. With Love, Amy

Every level of proficiency frees you to express more of Who You Are. What a difference from a cell phone shot and a MF shot!!!!!!! I learned to drive a car in a “63” VW bug, stick. Now I drive automatic. Less stress, but not as much control.

      4. I’m just beginning to shoot in RAW. (smile) Not sure on the average megs but I do know I shoot large form. Never did really shoot from a cell phone … I have only a trac fone which has a lousy camera. I am really enjoying shooting in MF yet it has its drawbacks. The “quick” shots are no longer an option. Truth be told, I did not do many quick shots, except with my cats. Now I am using my iPad camera for my cats. I drive a VW CC with 6 on the floor and my first car was a ’65 VW bug stick. How about that! LOL I LOVED that car even if the floor boards were rusting out. LOL I had more fun in that car, and today, my CC is my JOY to drive! I actually have a pic of my car on Petals where I doctored up the license plate to say LadyP. And all pink of course. Tee hee. Getting back to my camera …. it is a 16meg camera but I do know I am not shooting that large due to space. Now that I have begun to shoot RAW (the smallest format) my file is bigger. There is no need to shoot any bigger than I am now. I don’t plan on blowing my pics up to gigantic sizes. Anyways …. if I remember I will check on how many megs my originals are. My pics I show on Petals are 9×6″ with 150 mgpxl. I was told 72 would do it, but I don’t like the way my pics look at 72. Now I am off of here for the night. I took the day off and tomorrow as well. I am shooting the largest my camera will go. I also thought my cam was 16M. LOL That is how much I pay attention! I shoot that large because I feel I get a better quality picture. I think that speaks for itself by what you see on Petals. I’m glad you asked, because you got me curious. Now if someone else asks, I can respond with the correct information. I did sleep well, thank you. And now today I edit pics, experiment more with my camera, and prepare some posts for this coming week!!! Have a great Sunday! Love, Amy

    1. Love back to you my ski friend as well. This is a lesson I have learned from, because I really did taking backing up too lightly. No more. I have had many suggestions as to what to do, but one thing I do know. I will not go HD again. There are other ways to back up and one I will choose, probably over this weekend. Next week I get my new laptop (hopefully) so I can finally use PSCC on my laptop and also gain speed and space, neither that I have not much of now. So I do what I must to recover, and I am. If I stayed down, I wouldn’t get up again. (((HUGS))) Amy

    1. This darn WP! I just lost a ver LONG reply to you. Just know, my friend, that I experienced a huge loss, and determined to not give in to the despair, I am now Creating NEW. From out of the pain of my Heart, my photography has grown and now is even better. You are doing everything by being in my Life and being my friend. For that, I am very very grateful. Love you! 14. I can’t even begin to imagine how hard it was for you to go through that. I’m glad to hear of the generosity of so many people. I really liked what you said about replacing the photos, and how you have the talent to do so instead of perpetuating the greed in the world. Really looking forward to your future photos.

    1. This was not an easy decision by a long shot. Yet, I live by certain principals, and one of them I just refuse to contribute to the ever growing greed in this world. I tried again today with the HD to get it open to no avail. There is one more option open, and I am really trying not to get my hopes up. In the meantime, I have been running around like an idiot getting as many macro flower photos wherever I can. I won’t give up. That I can promise you. Love, Amy

    2. I really tried to get on your site, but I seem to be having trouble. I do my best to make the rounds of those who do come to Petals. I know it is a massive undertaking, but I really do try my best. Just wanted you to know I tried with your blog. xx Amy

    1. I am doing my best, Lorrie, trying to get as many flower pics as I can get. I’m also photographing things I would not have otherwise, one of which I am speaking of, will be posted next week on Petals. Thank you so much for your support and Love. (((HUGS))) Amy

  17. Sometimes life forces you to start over. When that happens, we should be thankful because the chance to do so almost never comes to us.

Terribly sorry to hear you loss. I wish you all the best in creating new cherished pictures.

    1. I have ONE more chance to perhaps recover them. Since we are in the middle of the worst snow storm ever recorded here, I am a tad wee busy. When this is all over, hubs and I will sit down and hopefully retrieve my pics. If not, it is to be. Simple as that. Love, Amy
