~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Father’s Day turned out to be my lucky day. It seemed the Universe smiled at me saying …. Let’s see you capture what I am showing you.
That morning I saw Whispers and Sassy sunning themselves on our kitchen floor. SO many (too many times) in the past I hesitated and didn’t even try to get a shot like what I saw in front of me. This is not an easy shot by no means, shooting into the light and having extreme contrasts.
Instead of loosing this opportunity I flipped my camera on Auto Intelligent (I can count on my one hand when I have used this shooting mode.) and pushed the shutter button. When I looked at my LCD my Heart jumped for utter Joy! YES! Can the smile on Whispers’ face be any bigger? (the cat closest to the door)
Later that same day I went for a bike ride but it was so blazing hot I turned around at the 3 mile mark and headed for home. I didn’t budge from our air-conditioned house when I did get home until later that afternoon. I decided to shoot flowers. And so I did.
Well, I was in my front garden which is in front of our living room trying to get set up to shoot this Rose. Carefully as I was placing my feet in that garden so as not to step on any flowers ….
I saw Rusty on a chair by the living room window. My settings on my camera were manual mode, manual focus, single shot, and shooting at a very low shutter speed. Instead of despairing and loosing another opportunity to get a mind boggling shot (which I had no idea to the extent of which at the time!) I brought Rusty into focus, checked the light meter, and when I saw the little red dot in the middle turn red indicating that the picture was in focus, I depressed the shutter speed immediately. I again attempted to get Rusty in focus to get another shot. That one blurred, however, and was deleted.
Here is that photograph that I honestly don’t think I could ever replicate. Shutter speed was 1/13th of a second. For those of you who don’t understand, that is a very slow shutter speed, one that many photographers will only use with a tripod. To shoot a moving cat the optional shutter speed would be no lower then 1/120th of a second. See the Miracle I created …
Is this not unbelievable? That is Rusty as seen through the living room window with my shadow reflecting off the front of the very same window. Like I said I don’t think I could replicate this. What a fascinating shot!
See what happens IF you at least try? I was tempted to pass this last shot up and the first one as well, but finally I’m getting to a place that says …. No! At the very least I will try!
I couldn’t agree with you more about the amazing shot of Rusty, Donna. I couldn’t tell you how I did it but this I do know. I saw him and I knew I did not have time to change my camera settings so as quickly as my hands would allow, I quickly focused him in clearly and pressed the shutter button hoping hoping hoping it came out clear. Shooting at 1/13th of a second is extremely slow to photograph a cat. The Universe was smiling on me in that moment! 💕🐾💕
Incredible really. It’s amazing how things like this happen – As you said, normally you probably wouldn’t “think” to shoot a cat at that slow of a setting but with no time to switch the settings – look at that amazing shot!! So many things are created by so-called “mistakes.” It completely opens up what’s possible and puts “miracles” in place. It’s exciting and makes more of a case for getting out of the box with life. I might have to write a post about this!! I applaud your genius!!
Aw, Donna! THANK YOU and you make me blush at the same time. Determination carries one far that I do know and yes there is also the fact that miracles are created out of so-called mistakes. Please do write a post about this. I am thrilled I inspired you! Oh yes getting out of the box … that is where the real genius lies. (((HUGS))) 😘😘😘
You’re welcome, Dan. I’m thinking of practicing on action shots with these guys. Even though I don’t have the “ideal” camera (yet) that won’t stop me from at least trying. Hope you are having a good day! 🌹🐾🌹
Hi Amy 🙂 Beautiful photos of the kitty cats and the flower!! ❤ They look well loved and cared for. 🙂 It is good to hear you didn't push it in the heat. Heat exhaustion is nothing to fool around with! Love and blessings. ❤ ❤ ❤
Even though I did not push with the heat, I did get ill and have been resting for 2 days now, Sarah. As I am getting older, my tolerance for high heat dwindles. I’m realizing I must be more careful now. And thank you for enjoying my family. All in this house are Loved and well taken care of and they know it. Much Love to you this day! 😘😘😘
Thank you, Christy. What caught my eye was the geometric designs the sun made on the floor which seemed to set off the picture purr-fectly. Of course my Beauties need no other addition for anyone to see how gorgeous they are. (smile) Much Love to you!! 💞🐾💞
