All we heard for days …. oh boy this one is gonna be bad. High winds with lake effect snow with up to 3 feet (91.4 cm) of snow. WARNING! This one is bad. Then, Christmas night, suddenly that forecast turned into 3 inches (7.62 cm). Are you freaking kidding me?
Me being me, I rolled my eyes while Hubby who overreacts just a wee bit, got all prepared for the big one. He wasn’t taking chances even if the storm was downgraded to a flake or two. Oh my goodness we live in WNY which is known for snow. To me this is normal but what is not normal is how these weather forecasters can never it seems get it right. How do they stay employed?
My attitude in a nutshell …. whatever tomorrow brings we’re ready. Bring it on be it 3 feet (91.4 cm) or 3 inches (7.62 cm) of the white stuff.
The next morning looking out my window it certainly did look like a lot more then 3 inches fell. It was closer to perhaps 2 (60.96 cm), 2.5 feet (76.2 cm) of snow, and still coming down. Hubby of course got all set to do his thang, with his boy-toy. I took some pictures while it was still coming down through our windows and when it cleared went outside with my camera.
A very cool thing happened. A Cooper’s Hawk perched in one of our bushes the whole time Hubby made paths in our backyard so I could easily get to the bird feeder and next door to the barn. The picture of this bird of prey was taken through my kitchen window while it was snowing and boy(!) did I have a heck of a time focusing! Look closely. This poor bird has trickles of ice falling from his beak.
I know it’s hard to see but if you really look, there is a buildup of ice on his beak that is dripping down on both sides of it. That’s cold!
Now here are the rest of the pictures I took. For those of you who don’t get snow, despite Hubby making a big to-do out of this event, this is normal for WNY. We just haven’t had a lot of snow for a few years so hence the excitement. By March this will get old and we will all be itching for Spring. Enjoy the pictures.
