Today’s story involves a mouse, a man and a woman.
There was a mouse who decided he would make his Winter haven inside a man’s grill. This mouse found insulation for his nest, made it, and then he ran back and forth hundreds of times from the bird feeder in the backyard to the garage squeezing in a teeny hole to get in, running up the grill and then jumping down into it with his stash. He made sure he was well supplied and ready for Winter, collecting for himself to his eyes a mountain of birdseed. Oh, he was set!
Along comes the man to use his grill and when he opened it, he could not believe his eyes. There was not only birdseed in his grill but a now wait, a mouse! Befuddled and angry the man yelled for the woman and told her his plight. He was frazzled and quite upset, for this tiny little mouse threw him a huge curve ball. What did this man decide to do? He returned back inside the house, the woman following to begin a discussion as to how the birdseed along with the mouse got in his grill.
Note: Why discuss a subject that has zero chance getting an answer? Seriously?
The woman, listening to this foolishness for a moment, exclaimed “You’ve got to be kidding!”, rolled her eyes as she headed back outside to figure out how to remove this mouse without injury. Upon closer inspection, she saw how hard this mouse worked and her Compassion came to the forefront while the man meanwhile yelled in frustration. This mouse according to him had no right to be in his grill. Really? Says who?
Turning to the man, the woman strongly informed this man to stop yelling for he was scaring the mouse! None of God’s creatures, no matter how small should be exposed to fear and deliberate hurt, she stated arms crossed on chest and eyes afire. She told the man to let him be so he can have the grill for his Winter home. Oh no, the man fumed, no way no how uh-uh.
Knowing this man the woman understood he would not stop yelling until something was done. So, that grill was taken apart mostly by the woman and that mouse was gently prodded with a stick by the man. That mouse wouldn’t budge. He stood his ground and showed this man he may be small but darn it he was not going to allow a human to dismantle his home. Of course, the man thinking himself better then a mere mouse, continued to shake that mouse down until finally he reluctantly left.
The man then cleaned that grill, getting rid of both nest and birdseed. The woman shed a tear for this poor little mouse and asked God to help him find another Winter home. Little did she know her prayer was heard for the very next day, when this man lifted the lid on the grill,
again birdseed was evident. The woman immediately piped up, “I vote this mouse stays for the Winter and if you wish to grill, use our cooktop grill option.”
A mere mouse had this man apologizing for his outburst and anger the previous day. He conceded. Come Spring, however, eviction notice will be served. There is only so much tolerance a mouse can expect from human beings. Besides, how was this mouse to know that where he found a warm and cozy refuge from the biting cold, that it would create such upset? Of course he didn’t. He’s a mouse.
And so the mouse will happily live in a warm Winter hidey hole.
Sorry, no picture of the mouse.

I live near the woods, and they’re constantly trying to nest in my pool heater.

Now that is a different situation. That contains wires, no? We’ve had them in our AC unit and they chewed through wires, not fun! But a grill? No problem. At least that is how I see it. LOL

A hilarious tale ‘Of Mice and Men’ – hehe, mouse 1, man 0… at least for now.

LOL I was laughing when I wrote this, Eliza. I wish I had thought of getting a picture of the nest, the pile of birdseed AND the mouse. But hubby was in such a state I had a heck of a time to at least try to get him to calm down. That is HIS grill. Men and their toys! ROFLMAO!! xo

They are amazing little creatures, moving all that material with their mouths. We’ve had to evict them, and it’s always a little sad.

The intelligence displayed in this little mouse was incredible! We’ve had to evict them too, especially out from our AC. That ended in quite the mess with many wires chewed through. Hubby was not happy.

Thank you, Krish. My “sensitive” nature is very keen at the moment. When I looked at this mouse, my heart just filled with such compassion. I saw the beauty and gentleness in him. What a lesson for me! Oh yes every being has the right to a home, I wholeheartedly agree!! Hope you are having a great day!! xo

Great story Amy – creatures great and small. Your little mouse can be called Weber. Nice name for a mouse – his name is already on the front door!!! We don’t always know why such creatures come to us – it’s the mystery of Mother!! Much love to you! Donna

LOL@Donna. Weber it is! This little guy reminded me of Mighty Mouse. If my hubby can just let go the “control” that everything must be a certain way (his OCD related to Nam and now C) he would get a chance to truly enjoy life around him in a way that would amaze him. Enter my world … I am always amazed. SMILE! Hope you are having a great day today!! Much love to you!! xo

Such a cute and hilarious story, Amy. I loved it. Good to know the mouse did not budge from his place and the man had to submit finally.

Yes it sure is in short supply. Going on and my husband though is good now, the Dr has told us he can now walk with a stick and climb down the stairs too but take things slow and steady. Love and light to you ❤️❤️❤️❤️

The Natural World does not ever cease to amaze me, Wendi. Seriously. Of course that mouse knew. Teehee …. These critters and birds seem to head to our home knowing they will be loved and taken care of. Thank you for reading this. So glad our paths have crossed again. Much love to you! xo

I’ve heard of a house mouse, but never a grill mouse. Fun story, Amy. They are tenacious creatures.

If I didn’t see this mouse with my own eyes, I wouldn’t have believed how tenacious a mouse can be, Jet. He intrigued me to be truthful. And then after getting kicked out he has returned. Unreal!! I’m glad you found the “fun” in this and hope you got a laugh or two. Goodness knows we all can do with more laughter in our lives!! xo

What a kind heart you are Amy 🙂 I continue to learn from you as much as I enjoy reading your post. That mouse has such ‘knowing’ too and you gifted him a home for the winter.

Sometimes my heart is just too big, Prag, and I’ve had to learn how to shield myself from my deep emotions that can be evoked from it. My sensitivity has been finely honed lately and it doesn’t take much for my heart to be worn on my sleeve. I’m astonished by how I “felt” that mouse’s gentleness and fear. It mattered not to me that this was a mouse but rather this was a living being. Come Spring when it warms up and he leaves hubby and I will clean out the grill and turn it on high to make sure all bacteria has been killed. No biggie. SMILE. Much love to you, dear friend!! xo

I grew up learning, of all living beings being sacred, in my family – you ‘feel’ them – I think there is a huge difference from thinking it. I love and admire you for that.

What I am about to say wouldn’t make sense to most but here it is anyways. I “feel” more truth and connection to Mother and Her Living Beings then I do with humans most of the time. Nature does not know how to play games or put up shields or lie. They just “are”. And that is the state I live as well. SMILE! xo

It does make sense! I am in awe of that ability – most of us are deprived of knowing or feeling are own nature – I have only begun to know the reality of my existence, can’t play games, feel the turmoil of feeling human games, and haven’t yet learned to feel the truth in nature and other beings, so struggle for balance.

It’s a journey. I’m not able to explain other then it will happen IF you are open to it, and develop in a very unique way just for you. Everyone’s journey is different and if it were not so and I puffed myself up telling you, well, this or that and the other will happen, I’d be lying to you. Just allow things to flow. That is all I can offer. Mother is very very wise and She does see. When she sees a human’s heart opening to Her she allows that one entrance in a way that will astound. SMILE!!!

I can’t even imagine how much effort that poor mouse put into ‘his’ house. Truthfully, until you shared his story I hadn’t considered how much effort any mouse put into their houses…..

You know, Colleen, do any of us really stop and think how much wildlife has to put forth into an effort just to survive? I know I don’t yet when I see things such as what this mouse does, I really do think. Having a relationship with Mother makes me very grateful at times to have a roof over my head and food in my pantry!!

I know I don’t often think it. I do enjoy the wildlife around us and can catch myself gazing after them….but I never think of the ‘work’ they have to do too!

Maybe one day I’ll be able to prove Mighty Mouse is in our grill. I’ve yet to peak. I don’t like the idea of scaring him. He’s been through so much already. Yeah, I’ve got such a soft heart. LOL Much love!! xo

Amy, another day I found the mouse nest under the hood of my car. I was surprised totally, because I am driving my car every single day to my work and home. The only time to build their “house” is night. How can they do it I have know idea. Thanks God it did not go on fire!!!

These critters find the darnedest places to build their nests, Alexander. Very good question …. HOW do they do it? I observe so much in Nature that leaves be boggled. Really.

You…are a better woman than I…when faced with a mouse intrusion in the middle of the night I opted for a dustpan to end it. I don’t like to kill them…but….like I said, you are a better woman than I am…

I carry out insects outside when I have them in my house. Honest. Ants different story and sometimes stinkbugs. I don’t like to kill anything and with that in mind, I am very conscious that all beings, no matter how small or how gross, are alive. I’m just who I am. Simple. (smile) xo

Loved the humour of your story Amy…. love and Hugs dear friend ❤

Oh good you did see the humour in this, Sue!! It is so much easier to narrate a story then to write it, especially if it is funny. Can you imagine what my neighbors must think of me and hubby at times? LOL I honestly don’t care. What you see is what you get. I don’t put airs on and darn it, that mouse IMO did not deserve to be disturbed for one, nor did he deserve to be afraid. I will always be an ally to those less ones. Always! Hugs right back at you!! xo
