Okie-Dokie. Who would have thought that in WNY in the month of January there would barely be any snow? I’ve been living in this area for more then 60 years, and I’m witnessing the unthinkable. So now I have to hunt for snow? A photographer friend told me that south of where we live, there is 6 inches (15.2 cm) of snow on the ground, a whopping 6 inches (15.2 cm). Friends, we don’t blink an eye at 6 feet (1.8 meters) of snow around here at this time of year. For me to get excited over 6 inches (15.2 cm), is saying a whole lot!
I hope to have time to get in my car and drive southward to see for myself this snow miracle in order to bring to you snowscapes. Today, depending on how my morning goes and what I can find out, I may go even though it is my scheduled gym day. Gym can be on Thursday. That snow may not last to be here on Thursday so I must prioritize. And for you, my treasured follower, I’ll try. (smile)
I did manage to get some fun snow pictures last week when I ran out with my camera as white lay on the ground. I didn’t expect what I came upon as I was rewarded for getting out with my camera. Wanna see what I saw? Saucers with kids and yes adults too flying down a white snow hill is what I saw and now you see too.
Serious moments at the top of hill, getting ready to go down. Strategy is written all over the little girl’s face with the blue saucer (left).
Not sure about this …
Dad and daughter … daughter got twisted around, going down the hill backward while Dad was not sure if he liked sledding.
All right now this is more like it! SNOW!
OH OH! Three boy pileup with a potential oncoming crash. All kids were unharmed. I was laughing so hard when I saw this unfold.
Is this as fast as this thing goes?
Father and son flying downhill. Dad is enjoying. Not so sure about son who has his eyes closed. And yes, that man is wearing sneakers. Brrr ….
These boys got turned around too, going down the hill first sidewise then backwards. As I watched they both were grinning.
It may not look like it, but every picture seen here was of motion. I had such a high shutter speed that when I depressed my shutter, it immediately froze what I was shooting. I realized when I was viewing these images to edit them, it’s not easy to portray motion when the camera freezes the shot, unless there is a lot more action then what is seen here. Some of the shots snow was seen flying, and the little girl with the cute hat on in the second picture, her tassels were flying as well. Also, the little girl going backwards with her hair whipping her face with Dad trying to stop his ride with his foot portrayed motion.
Hope you enjoyed!! Are you smiling? Have a great day!

Those kids look like they’re having a lot of fun! But, be careful what you wish for! It was only a few years ago, I think 2015, that we had 65 inches in February alone!

Rob, I’m not wishing for anything. I know better then to do that. I just stated the facts as they are or at least I HOPE I did. Did you see a wish in there? Oh please don’t tell me you did.

No, just a figure of speech. I don’t mind a little bit of snow. The kind that gives a nice flock on the evergreens, then melts by noon.

Whew! I didn’t jinx myself! LOL I however would like to get one day of the magic that snow can create. If not, oh well!

The worst part is when it gets really dirty, and then turns to ice. Where are those daffodils? 😀

Agreed about the getting dirty. It IS ugly. Daffies can wait. It’s not time for them to be poking up their yellow heads.

Great photos, Amy. Back in the 70’s I had to drive through Buffalo on my way to upstate NY. Six inches of snow never even seemed to slow traffic on the Thruway. I used to feel like I was an obstruction.

LOL Too funny you are, Dan. We Buffalonians are tough. Feet of snow is nothing. And yes you get used to driving in the snow. Back in the 70’s we got tons of snow here! Glad you enjoyed this post today! Yes it is a bit different from my usual. I’m getting a wee desperate on what to shoot here. I’m going out this morning hopefully to find decent snow to shoot!

We’ve had to literally run when we see snow this year for the little bit we do get does not stay long. It was such a joy watching the activity on this snow hill. What fun!!

Great shots! So nice to see kids outside playing and having such a good time! Amazing shutter speed – really captured the motion – in motion! Made me smile thinking about my childhood on sleds! Thanks!! Much love, Donna

Thank you, Donna! It really was nice to see kids outside. I have to admit however, that the kids seemed to go down that hill a few times then they were ready to leave. In the good old days if it was me on the hill, I’d be there all day long, as would my siblings. Kids today rarely enjoy the outdoors, which to me is a loss for them. This brought a lot of memories for me as well, friend. As I stood watching this event I was remembering a lot about my childhood. Much love to you!! xo

I’m smiling Amy, and wondering what it would be like to share this ‘snow’ frolics. Alas I’m like you at the moment, there is no snow where I live even in my cold 12C mid winter. We get the odd frost but that’s about it. I wonder if our cows milk would freeze in that weather? Frozen shakes? 😂 🤣 😯 😱
Shots are great my friend, may your trip find a little more 😀 ❤️ 🙏🏽 🦋 🦘 🐬 🐳 🌺

Glad you are smiling, Mark. You don’t know something unless you yourself experience it. You can wonder all you want but still it is what it is. Snow in Australia? I don’t think so. Thank you for the compliments on my shots. People I normally do not photograph. I’m getting a wee desperate as to what to capture these days while our weather is being so unusual. Much love to you! xo

Nice camerawork, Amy. Sledding is such fun. I used to enjoy it, but last time I went I was sore for days, my knees complaining most loudly. 😉

Thank you, Eliza! Lots of memories for me arose as I watched these kids. I know my sledding days are over. We all have to know our limits yet there are times it isn’t easy when we used to do A, B, and C. (smile) Sorry about your sore knees. xo

I think you are right about the little girl with her tassels. They give the idea of motion very well. It’s a pity that the background can’t be blurred and the person pin sharp. You’d have to talk very persuasively to your camera to get it to do that !

Now you’ve got me scratching my head, John. I’m sure there are ways to blur the snow in Photoshop but I don’t know how to do that. Using my camera to do so, I’m coming up blank right now. I’ve got my thinking cap on ….

I know, Alexander, and we just didn’t come in all day long except for lunch of course. With the lack of snow this year I’m glad these kids did have some fun. I miss the days when I was a kid out in the snow for hours on end.

Hey, you are just making my eyes wet by your memories of childhood. Don’t do that🤣, please.
It seems to me we had really nice childhood. The time was harder but people were happier than now. It’s just my opinion. It was the worst punishment in my childhood, when parents said – “Today you are staying home and not allowed to go outside”.

I remember how we fought about coming in for the day. We just didn’t want the fun to stop. I happen to agree with your sediments. Kids today don’t want to be outdoors. We lived to be out of the house!

You’re witnessing the unthinkable and the kids are having the time of their life, and you better get on one of those sleds!

I’m afraid my sledding days are over, Charlie. No, I’d rather watch and/or photograph the fun. That day brought a lot of memories to the surface for me as I was reflecting on my own childhood. Have a great day today!! xo

Yes, many smiles. My imagination can make the snow and tassels fly! I don’t want anyone to hate me, but I hope we get some good snow soon! It’s about to be February and our snow play has been next to nil. Will the Mottern girls sled this year, or nah?

Our snow play has been next to nil as well, Joey. No one hates you. There are lots of folks who are mourning the lack of snow … skiers, ice skaters, sledders, those who make snowmen …. and so much more.
I actually got my hopes up a bit today. It was snowing but then temps went up AGAIN and it is presently raining. *sigh*

We’ve had a week of snow and rain, so it’s pretty out there, but a lot of it is downright dangerous. Makes me wanna carry salt on my person! LOL

what amazing action shots AmyRose! I can’t believe that you are hunting for snow too…….here in Indiana we have had virtually no snow. No snowmen, no skating, no sleding, and no snowangels. Thank you for sharing what snow you have had with us! 🙂

Ah, this no snow is crazy, isn’t it? Hubby just told me the groundhog did not see his shadow so it will be an early Spring! God help us all with the insects. I have no idea what to expect in my gardens this year. I will simply observe, notate what I am seeing, and hopefully a “pattern” will arise so once again I can depend on Mother for guidance.
You are so welcome for my share. I actually got out to a local park that has a lot more snow then us …. I’ve posted 4 of those pictures and more will be coming. Hope you see them to enjoy!! Much love to you, Wendi!! xoxoxo
