Yesterday our electricity went out just as I was ready to clean our bathrooms. Instead of moaning, I opened a book to pass the time until the electricity came back on. One hour passed. That is when I jumped up off the couch ready for action just not willing to wait any longer.
I retrieved my flashlight to use while cleaning. Neither of our bathrooms have windows so they are dark. Hubby meanwhile is blowing a gasket so upset that I was going to use one flashlight out of the many we have. “You don’t know how long this is going to last,” I heard him say. Does a bad situation get any better by stressing? No. “Where’s your faith, Hubby?”, I quipped back. “But, how do you know the electric will go back on?”, asked the frantic man.
I didn’t. That is what faith is. You walk it. You live it. Until you SEE your objective.
No matter the reasoning I came up with not to worry …. we have dozens of batteries, there are stores close by, and we have many many flashlights, Hubby still was just so besides himself with worry because I was using one flashlight.
“I had every intention of cleaning the bathrooms today and that is exactly what I am going to do!”, is what he heard from me. Proceeding to clean our half-lav, I finished that and began in the second bathroom upstairs. I wasn’t in there for more then 30 seconds when the electricity came back on.
I’ve learned a few things in life. One is, act as though everything is OK even when it’s not. Two, act as though what you want will happen even if it is a long shot. Three, don’t worry about the “what-ifs” because those things can give you ulcers. Four, stay calm in situations you didn’t expect to happen.
When you act as though everything is OK, or act as though what you want will happen, you are showing the Universe it doesn’t matter that crappy conditions are at hand. That is when, in my humble opinion, situations arise that some would consider “miraculous”. I would like to think because I was so determined to clean our bathrooms, acting as though nothing was wrong, our electricity turned back on. Do I have any way to prove that? No. Yet, that attitude makes me feel empowered to think that way all because
*of how I was acting.*
Another example … I looked out our kitchen window on January 1st, saw a blob of white and in faith, quickly got my camera. When I saw a Cooper’s Hawk sitting on a branch behind the Evergreen tree, I could have given up, telling myself, “Oh, that is just too hard of a shot”. Believe me, it was.
No.
Instead, I did my best, found where the opening in the Evergreen was best to shoot through, and I did exactly that. If I had chickened out, I would not have the shot that you see below. There you go!
Evergreen taken with my Samsung cellphone … it is bigger then it looks. The penciled circle is the “hole” I shot through to get the hawk.
Taken at 400mm with my Canon

You never know what you can do if you don’t at least try. (GRIN!)

Absolutely love this post! It’s so true about faith and although you can’t prove it’s how your electricity came back on, I believe it is.

Thank you, Sarah! I’ve had more then one experience like this yet even though like I said there is no way in proving anything, it empowers ME to think something happened due to my actions. Have a great Friday today! 💝

How you saw that hawk from your window is beyond me. Maybe we’ll have to start calling you “Hawkeye” Rose. Also, I’m glad your bathrooms are clean. That’s always a plus, especially with the lights on.

I just saw a blob of white that I knew was “something”, Scott. Now perhaps you can understand why I said in another post that my eyes become very blurry and tired from straining hours looking for wildlife out in the forest. My eyes have gotten “Eagle-sharp”. As for my bathrooms …. least loved job for me to do but due to my determination, yes, Sir, they are clean! Happy Friday! 💖

I just love your attitude, dear Amy 😀
You are so right, why bother with something, as we can’t change anyway? Faith is necessary to our survival in several ways.
Lovely shot and much love to you ❤

There is no point in getting upset over something you have no control over, Irene. So you work with what you’ve got no matter how dire the situation is. I was just so determined I was going to clean those bathrooms, which is exactly what I did! Thank you about the shot! Whew! Tough one indeed! Love to you and Happy Friday! 💝

Amy, we have a number of battery-operated lights that we can use in various rooms when the power goes out. They look like light switches, and they’re LED so they throw quite a bit of light. In fact, we used one of them exclusively when our downstairs bathroom was renovated and there weren’t any hard-wired lights in there yet. Enough light to shower, wash up, and even do some reading if so inclined. Some of them are magnetic so you can stick one on the fridge or wherever, others can stand up on their own on a dresser or window sill. These handy little devices can be purchased pretty much anywhere, and they cost less than $5 apiece. I was so happy with ours that I bought some for every one of my daughters. In our area, one can never have too many battery-operated devices for power outages.

CM, we have those lights too. Hubby was in a tunnel freeze, not able to take the chance of using even ONE flashlight. I know how bright those lights are. In fact, I asked to use one but was denied. Instead of fighting, I used a pencil flashlight of my own. The bathrooms got cleaned and that is all that matters. Happy Saturday! ☺️

How does that song go Amy…’I’m a believer’ (I think it was written by Neil Diamond and recorded by The Monkees) 😀
By doing those very things you are believing in yourself, one of the hardest things to do but when tried amazing things happen….miracles even ❤ 😀

Yep I do know that song, Mark. Given that you know how difficult rising above fear is by acting as though nothing was wrong, you yourself then know that oh my gosh! miracles do happen! I told Hubby my theory about why the electricity went on and he had a real “a-ha” moment written all over his face as he acknowledged, …. “Could very well be, Amy.” I’ll make a believer out of him yet! LOL Happy Saturday, dear friend! 💝

Haha I like the can do spirit and positive attitude in the face of adversity! Pretty funny story about your electricity going out and cleaning with a flashlight while your husband freaks out lol. I’m sure it wasn’t funny at the time but I agree that some times we take like too seriously and need to have more faith! Needed to hear this today, thank you so much for sharing!

Hubby still has some work to do on faith. Teehee ….. He also gets “tunnel vision” while I on the other hand have a way of making the most out of just about any situation. His grumping was not funny at the time …. now I look back and yes do laugh. I actually told him afterwords when the electric came back on that I’d like to think it did all because I had FAITH it would and acted like it would. His look on his face was precious. Hmmmmm ….. got him thinking on that! LOL Good to know you needed to hear this today and that I gave you a good laugh! Way cool! Happy Weekend, Heather! 😂💝

Great post Amy! Lots of good points about intention and faith and trusting yourself and the universe. You felt the pull to act, and you did, completely trusting yourself – the electric came back on. Same with the hawk – great shot!! All great things to think about!! Much love! Donna

Ha – amazing shot. I am like you – I always believe everything will turn out. My husband however, is a doom and gloom person, who thinks the worst will happen in every situation. I guess we balance each other out. Sounds like that is how it works in your house too!!!

LOL More then you can possibly know. Hubby is worst case scenario type of guy while I always see the bright side of life or tend to make the best of any situation. I KNOW how difficult it is to live with a doom and gloom person. You’ve got my empathy, believe me! LOL 💞
