White Beauty (6 IMAGES)

It looked like Siberia yesterday.  Good thing I took up my cam and went outside.  I didn’t have to go far to find treasure.  Oh no.  Being very sore from the gym, I really was not up for a hike in deep snow.  That and I had to be out of this house by 3:30 in the afternoon.

Was I up to the challenge?  You bet!  I captured pictures that while editing, my mouth was hanging open in awe.  Two are extremely cropped and I’ll point out which ones.  One of the extremely cropped images was taken through a glass window.  The one you just saw, the very first one in fact, is the picture shot through my living room window.

This image would have been so much better IMO if I could have eliminated all branches from a tree closer to our house.  My knowledge in PS does not include taking out portions of a picture, (yet).

The ice crystal I found took the cake.  I was editing an image of a dead flower pod with snow on it when something caught my eye.  I asked … what do I have to loose?  So I cropped it in close, eliminating a good nine-tenths of the picture.  And voila!!  I actually was able to bring that ice crystal clearly in!  That is where shooting at ISO 100 comes in handy and having a full frame camera.  (wink)  You’ll see that ice crystal in the last picture below.

Now for the show!  Are you ready to view (hopefully) the last of the white beauty for this year?  I hear rain is forecasted so even though  yesterday looked like Siberia, today will not.  A-hem!  Take a look at what I found!

 

 

 

 

Now do you have a concrete idea just how tiny this image is?  Yes, that is one very small ice crystal!  Unbelievable I was able to crop this in!  Wow!

    1. Rain is on the way, Irene! Within the next couple of days all the white that I see will be gone. Yay! Temperatures are on the rise and soon I will be seeing grass again. White untouched as you just saw in these photographs yes is very very beautiful I do agree. Yet it is very cold. I am more than ready for the warmth of Spring! 💕🌸💕

  7. I knew these were coming, Amy. I’m so glad you stepped out. You’re right, you didn’t need to go far. In this case, though, I disagree with you. I think those close-in branches help add some perception to the photo that often gets lost in snowy scenes. In any case, I like them all. Thanks for venturing out and for sharing with us.

    1. Dan, thank you for your perspective or your take on my first photograph. I am just super aware of composition when I am taking a picture. I’m glad you enjoyed it as is. And in hindsight I should have in addition showed you the original picture of both of the extremely cropped pictures. Seeing is believing in exactly how much I eliminated in each picture.   9. Amy, this is most beautiful. You are a real artist and have the eye for the detail. But for some reason, I love that fourth photo the most. Such a peaceful scenery packed in a thick blanket of fresh white snow.

    1. Aw, thank you, Erika. I am very focused on composition for each image I shoot. That means not only what is the focal point but the background as well and how everything is placed. I texted my next door neighbor today as I sent the first picture from this post, asking her if she knew where this was. She said no. She couldn’t believe it is across the street from us. LOL Good thing I did go out yesterday because the pretty white is already melting today. Much Love to you this day!! 💞🌸💞

      1. I can imagine that some areas look so different under the snow that it is not always easy to recognize. Yes, you need to be quick in order to catch such motives. As soon as it is getting a little bit warmer the snow falls off. Thank you, again, dear Amy 💖

  11. The photos are all wonderful, Amy, but I especially love the top one. I agree with Dan that the tree limb adds perspective and acts to frame the picture. The muted colors are awesome – all white and gray with just a wee bit of brown. Just gorgeous!

      1. Ah, well I like to be home before dark whenever possible. We know we have plenty of snows to go here. We are iced today, so I’ll be staying in, doing laundry and relaxing between rotations 🙂

    1. It takes years of practice and a very very steady hand, if you plan on using a macro lens without a tripod. I’ve been shooting for many years and still I seek improvement. Have a beautiful day today! ☺️

      5. That is a good idea. Maybe I’ll ask for one of those nice macro lenses for my birthday in July. Oh, I just thought of a dog bed mattress. Those are fairly large so long as they are not to heavy. I’ll have to scout out my options. Thank you!!!

  16. Hi Amy 🙂 Wonderful images!! ❤ Ice crystals are very cool. 🙂 My favorite photo in the post in addition to the tiny ice crystals is the snow on the branches of the evergreen tree. I love how evergreens look in the snow. I love how they smell as well. It is one of those peaceful scents for me. When I walk in a grove of evergreens, a deep breath sends me into tranquility space. There is a warm up forecast for later in the week, but the forecast changes so much here that I don't give it much thought other than checking to decide what to wear when I go outside. I know that in a month and 1/2, there will be more warm days than cold ones. I'm keeping my thoughts on that. 🙂 It was sunny and cold this morning when I went out for a walk. The birds like the sunshine and were actively flying around and chirping. Their energy is inspiring! I hope it doesn't get too sloppy and icy out there as the snow melts and you stay well. 🙂 Love and blessings for you. ❤ ❤ ❤

    1. I so agree with you about the snow on Evergreens!!! They turn the world into magic, a white world of such Beauty that it takes my breath away! That is all gone today so it is a good thing I captured what I did when I did! I so look forward in smelling Earth soon …. the smell of Spring is intoxicating! I really don’t pay attention to the weather forecasts. I glean my information from looking outside and looking to Mother Nature Herself for my clues. May you have a wonderful day today, Sarah!   17. Looks familiar AR….Like my back yard. The entire surrounding property around my house was stark white and frozen this morning. The trees looked like someone had shaken powdered sugar over everything. I guess it was like a fine mist falling that froze on contact. It’s gone now, everything is melted off the trees. Still snow abounds on the ground. We thankfully did not get the predicted downfalls of rain I am so ready for the green hues of spring…Glad you made it out to photograph. Thanks for sharing.     1. Today all that beautiful puffy white stuff is gone. Yesterday was a bit warmer but today again temps have gotten cold. The ice that fell last night is gone as well. I am SO ready for GREEN, too, VK! *sigh* Just the few patches of faded grass I’ve begun to see is whetting my appetite!! LOL Have a beautiful day today!! Much Love! 😘

    1. That little ice crystal is about the size of the head of a pen. Hindsight tells me to have made the effect even more cool was to have posted the original picture to show how drastic I cut into the original. I’m blown away by my camera!!     1. Takes a bow! Thank you, Mark! That ice crystal is about the size of the head of a pen. As I said to someone else, hindsight tells me I “should have” posted the original picture to show everyone the incredible power my camera has and how much of the original picture I cropped out. All that white is gone today with actual patches of faded green grass showing. Yes it was and still is seriously cold. Go stick your head in your freezer …. that ought to give you a really good idea how cold it is here. LOL Much Love to you!! 💖💖💖

  25. I mentioned in a previous post how I miss spring flowers…and now you’ve got me missing snow. I have not experienced such a winter wonderland since January 2013! Far too long. Wonderful to see it captured so beautifully here. Stay warm

  26. I actually like the branches in the first picture. That picture somehow says to me there is so much life, so much trust, so much hope that is flourishing from below and above amidst all that frozen world. All your pictures say the frozen emotions are ready to thaw and become part of the flow. The close-up of the ice crystal is absolutely amazing – as if you look closely and deeply at anything and all you find is amazing beauty. Your make the world look so beautiful!

    1. Thank you, Pragalbha! It seems as I view my many photos, branches are a trademark of how I take pics. There seems to be branches, closer then what I am shooting at, in a corner of the image. (smile)
      Your words touch me deeply for it is in looking at the beauty in this world, I’ve learned to live my life in Love, no matter the circumstances. Beauty is my “saving grace”. Emotions regardless of the “season” are valid and true and sometimes are meant to be “frozen” for a purpose found later down the road. If we learned everything at once, we would be so overwhelmed nothing would be accomplished.   35. What a beautiful way to capture Winter, one of the most underrated season. Winter cleanses and purifies the air, that’s why the air in temperate regions are cleaner than it is in tropical regions.

    1. I so agree with you that the cold air during Winter cleanses the air. It also kills off a lot of the insects and nourishes the earth with Nitrogen, a nutrient so required to grow beautiful flowers. I have learned to fall in Love with Winter, a season I honestly did not like. No longer true as my pictures will attest. Much Love to you this day! 💖💖💖
