Today is July the 4th, a very special day here in the States. Two days ago when I sat with needle and thread to repair our flag I began to wonder what the meaning of each color is. I found the meanings of each color at Design By Joyce and I only chose those descriptions that I felt described the “overall Energy” of the USA. Those meanings you just read when you viewed my flowers.
Over the many years I’ve witnessed my husband having great difficulties coping because the fireworks remind him of gunfire he experienced in Vietnam. I’ve seen the suffering and the depression and the fear. And I’ve prayed that someday he would change these reactions to a more heathy means of coping. 🙏🏼
And this year, I shout from the highest mountain for he is doing exactly that. Thirty-three years I’ve waited for this transformation! Now before I tell you what, allow me to interject that what he is doing would have been a heck of a lot smarter IF he had done this over the Winter. 😬 OK. Now that I got that off my chest I’ll just push that little bug away and focus on what is important.
Hubby is doing something called “blueprinting” to our bikes. If you don’t know what that means which I did not let me explain. He is taking the entire bike apart, replacing parts inclusive of spokes, then fine tuning and balancing all parts so that these bikes are one of a kind and ride like Rolls Royces. “Honest, Hubby, I would have been very happy with just new tires on my bike.” 😏
Yesterday he found he needed new rear wheel axle bearings and as of that finding I’ve been banned from riding my bike. Better safe then sorry but …. OK, no more said! HURRAY! (written 2 hours later). He actually took his rear wheel in to be looked at and the bearings are OK, just needed adjusting. 🤗 That means I can ride MY bike!! That ban has been lifted so the tummy toner continues. 🙃 As soon as he is finished with his bike, he goes to work on mine. *crossing fingers within one week I will have my bike back*
I honestly would have been happy with hubby just putting new tires on my bike. But when he remembered a friend of his blueprinted the engine of his car wayyyyyyy back in the hazy days called adolescence and how the very sidewalk shook when that car took off well …. well hubby decided to blueprint our bikes so they will shake the ground. LOL 😂 Heaven help me!!! The testosterone hits and with it hubby seems to have developed “new” eyes for the toned tummy! Just sayin’ …… 😳
Take it from me to see him go from not leaving his bed for days at this time of year to be actively involved in a HEALTHY something … well! My Heart rejoices and just confirms that by not giving up and really believing and praying that someday he will finally finally leave the terror of Nam behind when the 4th of July arrives, gee …. I’m tearing up here! No one can understand this Victory unless he or she has walked our shoes.
So! Let us all have a glorious 4th of July! Celebrate but stay safe and within your day please say a prayer or send good thoughts to all those fallen soldiers and their families who fought for the freedoms we do have today. 🇺🇸 Their loss is felt by many this day so let us in graciousness and Love reach out to embrace them, if just with our thoughts. Happy Fourth of July!!! 🎉

This is such a powerful post, Amy. Although I cannot compare my experiences to fighting in Nam, PTSD continues to have an impact on me and the ability to transcend these occasions is welcome indeed. I’d just been thinking my reactions to loud noises was under better control, when my eldest niece knocked on the front door last week and I jumped out of my skin with an awful, strangulated moan and all the accompanying feelings in the gut. As you say, no one who hasn’t been through trauma can really understand what it’s like. All hail to your husband! Enjoy!

Awwwwwww, Sarah! How my heart goes out to you. I understand about the loud noises for I also have PTSD and how I’ve had to work so hard at maintaining calm. Just last evening I was admiring my roses when a firecracker exploded right next door which made me literally jump out of my skin! It took a long time for my heart rate to slow down. May you continue your healing journey to overcome those things that haunt you. Stay in HAPPY by doing those things you love and do your best to avoid your triggers. I know easier said then done. Much Love to you this day! 💖🌹💖

Love you and you go, girl!
Fly like the wind, but be careful too. . . 🚴 ♥ 🕊
I like the sound of joy echoing through your words and home.
Praising the higher being bringing clarity and your husband’s blueprint motivation!
PTSD is horribly wretched, bad! Cousin Johnny go through Vietnam practically ruined.

I too am familiar with PTSD yet I refuse to allow that to ruin me. I do have joy within and yes I am happy. That for me are the keys to overcome those things that want to destroy me. I will be careful on my bike. I’ve got lights now and a mirror and pretty soon a souped up Bike! 🤣

Happy the 4th of July! That is cool you have flowers in red, white and blue. That is a cleaver idea to put them here. They are gorgeous.. Oh, I see your bike. That is not a simple bike in my book. It looks great and inviting to take it for a good ride. Your husband did a fantastic job and the best of all the great news about him too!

Thank you, YellowCable!!! The bike in the photo which I should have labeled, is my hubby’s bike that he is working on now. My bike has yet to be worked on. I hope you had a great Fourth!! 💝

This is a wonderful post, Amy. I wish the people carelessly shooting off fireworks would show some consideration for the people and animals that can’t cope. I hope you enjoy the 4th and your next ride.

Our idiota thoughtless DUMB neighbor was shooting fireworks right smack next to the barn last night next door to us so those fireworks were exploding right above that barn where Cherish the horse lives. My house shook and I was furious because I know who was doing it. NO consideration whatsoever. Here they have acres of land but did they go way in the back to shoot said fireworks? Nope. Right next to a barn? Really???? Thank God I have some “magic” herbs to help keep my cats calm. As it was I was jumping out of my skin as was hubby. I’ll be very happy to say goodbye to this 4th even though in many ways it has brought forth miracles. I will enjoy my next ride which is today. The freedom I feel as I leave my responsibilities behind. Have a great fourth, Dan!! Stay safe 🇺🇸🕊

Apologies for the earful. People are so obtuse sometimes as to how terrified these animals become during the fourth. Thank you for listening. As if you had a choice. 😉

A very moving post, Amy — you intimately know both pride for your country, and a sobering look at what war can do. I hope your Fourth has many sweet moments, and that the year is ahead is one of success.

Jet, tears stung my eyes and I was so moved when I read your comment. Its been a very long road traveling with hubby and most people would not have stuck it out. To have done so carrying the battle scars to show for it yet seeing what I am today with my husband brings such a tidal wave of gratitude for myself in not giving up. I would not let go my faith that LOVE would conquer his nightmares. This is just the tip of the iceberg. And yes I still have pride for my Country. I believe in the people’s ability to turn our Country around for the better. Have a great fourth! 💕👏💕

All I could say is WHAT??? when I read your comment. Where did you read about a leaky roof, Marissa? I didn’t say anything about a roof much less one that is leaking. Is my post encoded with other words? 😉

More should understand just how much people sacrifice to get our freedom and then to keep it. I am thrilled to hear of this progress!! [even if you can’t ride your bike.]. My dad used to refurbish old rusted bikes for underprivileged kids – good hobby!!

First, let me say, I’m sorry your husband suffers so and that you have watched him suffer so long. Second, I had no idea the bike thingy was a thingy, and that’s totally cool cause I love to learn — thank you. And then, let me say that the photos are beautiful!
Never give up hope ❤

Joey, go look up what blueprinting is to get the full appreciation for what hubby is doing. I think someone like you could wrap your head around this and actually do it. And about hubby … he does not like it when I talk about things as I have here yet I want others to really understand what war does to those who have been subjected to it. To see some of the fears and paranoia disappear is a JOY to behold!! 💕🌹💕

All things truly do happen for a reason, Sue. Now hubby is so involved in blueprinting our bikes his attention barely registered it was July 4th. The night of the 3rd was pretty tough as an idiota was blowing off extremely ground shaking, house shaking fireworks right next door to us. That was a tough night for ALL of us in this house. Thank goodness the 4th is behind us! My babies are still to this day showing health issues because of the stress of the 4th. Now it’s catch up for me. Lots of LOVE to you!! 💞🌹

Hi Amy!
So happy for this wonderful victory! It’s amazing to me people still promote war. Thanks for sharing your and your husband’s story, it’s things like this that may stop a young boy from being hung-ho about joining the military for a fight. Very cool about blueprinting…I think I will read more about that!! My partner and I are moving to a place with a bike path right behind us, so looking forward to more cycling myself! Blessings to you and your husband, I am really happy for you both!

You are welcome about me sharing this story, Donna. Hubby is not thrilled when I do BUT if I can get just one young and yes stupid “kid” to THINK that war is not all fun and games and he’s “tough enough” to do whatever, well, then I’ve accomplished a lot. Boys and their testosterone! Grrrrr ….. And yes blueprinting is fascinating as it allows you complete control of how you wish something to function. It’s a lot of work and a lot of study but anyone can do it. I’m having the time of my life on my bike right now. And wow am I ever getting into shape fast! Blessings to you, dear Donna! 😘

Hi Amy, blueprinting a bike might not seem to make so much difference at first, but when your get to that 20th or 50th mile and your legs are burning you will appreciate every little bit of ‘easier to ride’. ( Nodding yes, I did this once years back.) 👍💕
