Before I begin with the meat and potatoes of this post, I need to tell you that my previous questioning IF Thyroid medication would have been given to Karma and Prinny, would they today still be alive. I pulled out their last blood work and poured over the two reports. The Truth finally released my spirit and Heart as I saw that no, Thyroid medication was not indicated for either one of them. Prinny and Karma both succumbed to Cancer and Renal Failure. I and my husband went above and beyond to not only help them but to give them as best we knew how, a last phase of Life with us.
Lessons yes were learned from both. With Truth no more questions, no more doubt. My spirit and Heart are at Peace. I extend Blessings to all of you who comforted me and told me to let this go. Thank you!
~ROCKY~
Last week was quite the involved one for me. I was correct about Rocky needing Thyroid medication even though he is still testing within normal limits on his blood tests. For this reason it is vitally important for Pet Parents to know the symptoms of Thyroid disease and to educate themselves on what the normal T3 values are. I now have two cats who are on Thyroid medication who test within normal T3 values.
Both his physical appearance and the way he is acting tells me he is feeling so much better! I thought perhaps Chamomile tea would not only decrease his GI symptoms but decrease his anxiety as well. So I began to give him a few cc’s and sure enough I witnessed a huge difference! I also administer pain medication when he asks for it. To see this little “big guy” relaxed and happy leaves me seeking words to describe my utter relief! His anxiety and GI symptoms were the last remaining issues. They have now been addressed.
His coat is super shiny and he is slowly gaining weight. He still is craving water which I am coming to believe is psychological in nature versus physical and so I must very carefully give him small amounts of water as I supervise. Otherwise, he will gorge himself and vomit. I can no longer leave any water out except in the study which at times is troublesome so I must be observant regarding who requires water and give that cat water as well.
Keep in mind, Rocky seemed so ill I had called Lap of Love, the organization we use for at home euthanasia. Pictures say a thousand words at least. He is looking so healthy!
~COOKIE~
While so focused on Rocky, I did not notice that Cookie was not eating. She is the “little Mother” and asks that food be put on “her” chair. She then steps aside after a bite or two to those who are standing in line waiting to eat. Someday I need to take a picture of this line of cats as they each sit on the floor patiently waiting in the correct hierarchy.
By the time they are finished if there is no food left in the dish, she will usually not ask for more. In other words, she will willingly suffer starvation for the sake of others. She has done this countless times and every time I’ve had to intervene by hand feeding her until she again starts eating normal amounts. This time however, I did notice she was as light as a feather, down by almost one pound. Serious trouble for a very small cat.
I immediately stepped in and began to feed her. Being a high energy nervous type cat she at times drives me batters for the attention she persists on having and the way she is constantly in motion. I tried Camomile tea with her and here again that tea calmed her down! She is getting this tea every day twice daily. I’m still hand feeding her today but she is gaining weight and looking so much healthier! This picture of her was taken a week ago showing a nose that is not too pink a huge indicator that all is not right with her world. Yes Cookie’s nose is pink today!
~CHARLIE~
What a Sweetheart! Last time you heard about Charlie he was limping and there was a good possibility he would be going for x-rays. This past week I began to give him a supplement that aids in decreasing joint swelling and increases joint mobility along with pain medication. He is still limping but his actions and his shiny coat are telling me he is feeling so much better. I am keeping an eye on him to see where this is going. I truly do not want him going in for x-rays because of the heavy sedation the procedure would require.
If he continues to limp I will contact my Vet to make that appointment I dread. This only after we do research and administer Homeopathy that addresses inflammation. That will be addressed as of today. If no improvement is seen within this coming week, an appointment will be made for x-rays. IF there is a benign growth or there is a condition that can be addressed surgically, this too has to be considered. If it is arthritis additional medication options are available. Bottom line, I don’t want Charlie in pain.
I have begun Charlie on Chamomile tea yesterday in an attempt to see if this helps his state of health. As of this writing I honestly don’t know the outcome.
~SASSY~
Is Sassy not gorgeous? Poor baby has not been feeling well and in pain which I still do not know the source of. She is one of the babies I was thinking of putting on Thyroid medication (Cookie was the other one) but in looking at her blood values, her T3 is too low for our Vet to even consider putting her on Thyroid medication. Same is true for Cookie. But what I am doing for Sassy is giving her Camomile tea for anxiety and pain medication for her pain. In the meantime I am observing her, trying to figure out just what is going on with her. Nothing in her blood work indicates anything is out of place but her behavior and how she looks tells me otherwise. Unlike Charlie she is not limping.

Today’s stories are about four of my precious babies, the top four of this past week. I have others who are a work in progress and have been given treatments (new) as well. I might continue with their stories next week. With all the stories I tell you about our feline family Love is the root of everything we do. And I do mean everything!

Thank you so much, Erika. The sacrifices involved undertaking such a huge “movement” are too many to name. Yet how else do I live life? These cats came to us for help and not for one day since then have I neglected them. I pray by my example other Pet Parents will begin to recognize how truly special our fur family is!! Much Love to you this day! ❤

Yes, YellowCable, these furry little ones are really are babies, our family. We treat them as such and they respond by giving us so much Love, much more then a lot of humans understand how to. No regrets with all the many sacrifices and hard work. We Love who we do. Bless you!! ❤

You are amazing! I am so happy I have connected with you! I would love to hear more about the tea. Is this “people” tea? Do you brew it and heat it up and everything? Is it for calming them down or what is the purpose?

LeeAnn, here is a link regarding the properties of Chamomile.
http://www.anniesremedy.com/herb_detail13.php?gc=13b
I bring approximately 1 cup water to a boil then allow one tea bag to seep about 1 minute to make a somewhat weak tea. When cool I place in glass jar and use for about 3 days being ever mindful when the tea is no longer good. You can tell by a sediment that forms on the bottom. I give 2-3cc at a time up to twice daily. I’m really hoping this helps Charlie. I have others not stated here who I have been giving this tea to with excellent results. Yes Chamomile is safe for cats to ingest.

I also make sure the jar is tightly covered when not using.

All your beauties are really beautiful, Amy 😀
I love Charlies expression today, he has a very strong personality.
I have one question for you; Some years ago I read, that Chamomile is great warm and middle warm, but bad for both humans and animals, when it is cold. I can understand at you here, that you have not noticed this?
After I read this, I have only used it before it got cold.
Much love to all of you ❤

I’ve read nowhere that it is bad when cold. I am giving either warm or at room temperature which is approximately 72 degrees F. I am seeing stunning results! Charlie is very very special. He has only lately allowed me to see him and now giving me solid eye contact. This after 9 years. He does not allow people in easily. I was stunned when he let me take this incredible picture of him. His eyes are so wise and gentle and hold deep mysteries. 💖

The cats are beautiful, and your photos are jsut perfect, Amy. You know we have a fondness for Tuxedo cats. MiMi, the smaller sister likes a little extra attention when eating, which my wife happily provides. You go to great lengths for these babies – I’m sure they appreciate it.
