Come sit here with me awhile
come and breathe Peace
Leave your troubles behind
as we just sit here awhile

Full daylight photography has always intimidated me. Shooting only on cloudy days has its limitations as I really learned this year. We had a record breaking amount of sunny days this Summer so I missed a lot of opportunities with my camera on account of those sunny days.
I started thinking and doing some research. I went ahead and bought a filter for my lens I did not have and I pulled out another that I did have with every Intention to start shooting in the daylight. I still prefer the effect of cloudy days with my photography but if I am going to allow sun to limit my skills as a photographer, I’d say fear was playing a big role and darn it, I just won’t go there.
This photograph is one of my first attempts experimenting with my new filter. My focal point was the dip in the tree line and not the bench but if I could go back to retake this image I would have moved the frame over to the right to bring more of the focus on the bench. Live and learn, and that I am doing. I’m also now excited because I know I will be able to use this new filter in combination with the filter I already have with snow landscape photography. Oh yes, I am thinking ahead here. It pays to prepare.
Settings I used:
ISO 100, F/5.6, SS 1/160s, FL 55.0mm, WB shade, with Canon EOS 6D
❤ ❤ ❤
I think the bench to the side adds to it.. making you look to the scene and tree line seeing what those on the bench would be looking at..
Love how the light is bright upon the wood bench too Amy.. I can see you are having fun xxx
Love to you and enjoy your week xxx

I really worked hard on balancing the shadow/light in this photo. As I said daylight photography with the type of camera and settings I use is very challenging. The filter I bought darkened the shadows too much so I had to adjust in the editing room. The filter that would have eliminated this problem was just too much in price so I settled for second best, which I have. Knowing how to work with the tools I have as a photographer is so important. I’m learning, Sue. And yes I sat on the bench for a good long while! 🙂 Much Love to you!!! ❤

Thank you, Erika. There is a lot more to photography then just snapping a picture. Smartphones are a different story. Doing everything manually now that is the challenge! And yes I LOVE it!!! GRIN! Have a wonderful day, dear friend!! ❤

I would love to sit at that bench right now, Amy. It looks so beautiful and peaceful in your photo. Here a neighbor is making a lot of noise, he is changing something inside his house, very slowly, and with open windows, so all noise here and not nice to stay outside now.
You are really having fun with your new toy and your photos become better and better. There is a beautiful light in this one.

Sorry to hear about the noise, Irene. Gee it seems as if you had a similar problem in another place you used to live in. We occasionally have noisy grandkids come next door to visit and I am SO happy when they leave.
I sat on that bench and then some. This park is just so darn beautiful. It’s good to walk in so I go to another park to hike which I did today. I’m so fortunate to have such parks nearby. And I agree. There is a beautiful light in this picture. Thank you for noticing. Love, ❤

Good for you to have such parks nearby, Amy. Then you have many possibilities for being creative with your camera 🙂
Yes, there have been these problems with noise before, but that was noisy tourists without any kind of empathy.
I just hope, that my neighbor will end his building noise fast. Now most of the tourists are gone, so we should have more peace here now.
Love ❤ Irene

SO glad you breathed in deeply, Van. We all can make a conscious effort to do that often during the say. When stressed we tend to hold our breath or to breathe shallowly. Thank you for being here today and taking the time to comment!! ❤

It’d be kind of neat to see a before filter and after filter shot of the same thing in mid-day. Lovely area! I would love to sit on that bench and soak it all in!! Good for you for (pardon the pun) Expanding your Horizons LOL!

Right. Another idea. Thank you. It is so hard to take a decent picture in broad daylight with only a haze filter. The sun just bleaches so much out and makes things ugly and harsh. I will take a before and after picture (without and with the filter) probably next time I go shooting in sunlight. I did sit on that bench really not wanting to leave. This park is just so beautiful, Laura. And HaHA for the expanding my horizons comment. You crack me up!!! LOL ❤

Oh Amy, this picture really pulled me in. I just love it. I can imagine sitting on the bench also taking in the tranquility all around. I don’t have a expensive camera but could go nuts taking pictures. Glad you had the filter to help ❤

Oh, Kath!! My Heart is smiling as is my face knowing how much this picture affected you. In my opinion, I have so much to learn about taking pics in strong daylight but I will admit this is not a bad beginning. I cherish my camera, believe me!! I know how fortunate I am that we have the means to allow me to buy such an expensive camera. I had to make the choice to either buy a very expensive filter system that would make daylight photography far easier but due to the cost of this new camera I settled for second best, the filter I decided to buy. Now with this one I have I must adjust shadows and saturation in the darkroom over that of the first expensive one I would not have to. But I could not in good consciousness make another big buy on myself. Nope. I will work with what I now have and I bet I will create magic. I already am. LOL I hope you got all that. Hehehehehehe ❤

As for the bench I really would have liked to see more of it in the photo towards the center yet it still seems to work. I sat on that bench a good while just drinking this beauty in. I am so lucky to have a park like this so near by. 🙂 ❤

Thank you, Yellow Cable. The composition or feel to me is a bit off but to even be out in bright sun is a major hurtle for me to jump over. The light I hit right on for I made sure where the sun was in comparison to my face. ❤

It it a polarising filter? Nice shades of blue on a sunny day made me think of it… 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Nope. It is an ND filter. I also have a polarizing filter but that didn’t seem to work all that well when I was not 45 degrees to the sun. (Sun being to the side of me.) All these tricks we learn on the way. I also shot in shade WB to bring out the golden tones and the blues. It works. LOL 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
The polarising filter should be rotate-able, so to speak, to get the correct angle from the sun. A decent ND filter is next on my wish-list.. 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Except when the sun is behind you the polarizing effect isn’t 100%. The sun’s postion is so important but yet too I’ve used the polarizing filter on a cloudy day with good effects. It’s all in experimenting and finding out what words best. 🙂 ND filters are not cheap. I had to settle for a solid one and sitll that was not cheap. Good luck!!! ❤

I want a variable ND filter but am planning to wait till I buy the lens on my wishlist….a 62 mm filter thread 18-300…..

Variable is a lot more expensive. Hence why I bought the solid.

Hi, Debi!! Again Life has speeded up and so I am just now answering your lovely comment. Yes we all need to take out more time to breathe deeply. I tend to breathe shallowly or even hold my breath in very stressful times, way not good. I am so glad that this image resonated with you and reminded you to breathe more deeply. Sometimes it is a conscious effort!!! Much Love, Amy ❤

thank you Amy, and no worries. it seems I’m abit like you in that department about shallow breathing. getting OUTside… reverses that for me. the weather has to be tolerable tho.

It’s gotten chilly here and very rainy and the moment that lets up I must begin to close up my gardens. That will make me breathe. Working with these special needs cats, when they are having trouble my Heart just bleeds and the stress builds as I hope our efforts bring them back to balance. I tend to hold my breath too much and have to remind myself to breathe. And when I hike ….. No choice but to breathe. LOL ❤

So you’re expanding your scope of photography……Well done.
You could look up the theory of thirds in taking pictures, google it, if you haven’t studied it yet.
That would help you pick just the right place to take the pic the way you desire the emphasis.
Life is a constant stepping forward!!!!!
Especially in the bright sun!!!!!

Yes, Michael, I am expanding and it feels wonderful! I know the rule of thirds, thank you. My usual tenacious concentration was off that day because I was sending texts of pics to a friend who is missing “home”. I was doing too many things at once, and so I learned. Life IS a constant forward movement IF we allow it to BE. Bless you and glorious weekend!!! 🙂 ❤

I see so much joy being produced in your cycling life. Sweet.
I figured you (knew), but it sounded like you forgot.
Anyway…….I think you are just out of practice…. as micro photography doesn’t use that rule as much.
Your autumn leaves must be close up there!!!
I have like a 2-3 week wait here.
The apples we pick are also a later verity…..Wine sap and Mutsu(crispin).
Happy weekend and black moon tonight!!!!!
Let your feminine desires flow!!!!!

At times, Michael, Life itself has something else in Mind and it is at those times that the discipline formed to maintain Peace comes into play. There was a long period of my Life where Peace just stayed. I will not forget this phase of my Life as I experienced Bliss after Bliss. My Faith upholds that the day returns when Peace maintained embraces me yet at a more glorious level. Much Love, ❤

Shooting with filters is such a great way to expand on creativity and find better ways to bring out the beauty in a scene (not that you need much help with that 😊)…you’ve got your slices of heaven all around you. Anywhere that bring the feeling to say “come and breathe Peace, Leave your troubles behind” is a place well worth re-visiting time and again…and of course taking your camera 🙂
Wishing you a great autumn ahead Amy. Take care.

I am just finishing up my New Year’s post and have stated I am having an atrocious time with notifications so my comments will be closed for the morrow’s post, yet I refuse to rant on such a beautiful post. You have a terrific personality. It gives me great joy that I can encourage you and your comments on my blog also means the world to me. It feels good to get honest appreciation, and I enjoy being able to give that to others. When I mention a mobile blogging app most people think of the wordpress app. But that app if for you, I create mobile versions of your blog so that your audience can connect with your blog at the touch of an icon, it is simple and inexpensive and I love the work. You can see an example from a great blogger from India.
