Courage is when you do something
as you follow your Heart in every way
regardless of what others may think or do
and when you do
Waterfalls of Victory
gently, serenely,
cascade over you.

These words you just read were birthed from a situation recently in my Life that brought claws of fear gnawing at my stomach. It took many days for me to wrestle that fear down to the ground so courage could rise to the occasion, assisting me to do what I knew was the Higher Way.
For some of you, especially those who are new to Petals Unfolding or who do not know me very well, you may think that the words I write for my publishings are just that, words I write. They are, yes, yet they are so much more then this. For you see, they are created directly from my Life Experiences. I walk my talk and by doing so, I “hear” words that describe what I am walking at that moment which many times leave me running for my yellow legal pad of paper and pen. These words do have a way of coming sometimes when I am very involved in something with my Life. This is Source’s way of keeping me on my toes, I suppose (smile).
For several days after I wrote this post, I deeply thought what courage means to me. Over those days, I recorded my thoughts in Memo on my phone (yes I do know how to do that as well!). As the thoughts came no matter where I was, I was ready with my phone.
Below are some of my definitions of courage I have learned from my own Life’s Walk. How do you define being courageous in your own Life?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Courage is standing up to someone who I know detests me, resists me, or disrespects me. In standing up to them, I do not loose my integrity and dignity.
Courage is refusing to compromise my own sense of self-worth.
Courage is Living my convictions and beliefs.
Courage is getting involved to help someone even when I really don’t know how that person will respond. I do this only when my Heart directs me to do so.
Courage is not compromising who I am in a world who puts so much pressure on me to be someone other than who I am.
Courage is walking 5.5 miles on very hilly terrain when my pain level is high that day.
Courage is finishing what I myself started even if that means putting most of my dreams on hold (for now).
Courage is staying married to a Vietnam Vet who still has so many PTSD related problems.
Courage is speaking the truth to someone who I know will not accept that truth and who in turn will respond in a retaliating matter. I refuse to lie.
Courage is choosing honesty over deception even when it is safer to lie.
Courage is staying calm in times when I want to give in to fear and scream until hoarse.
Courage is taking care of other people’s outside animals due to those people’s blatant neglect of them.
Courage is taking care of all our cats each and every day especially on those days I wake up feeling as tired as I felt when I went to bed the night before.
Courage is daring to be different in a world that does not take kindly to different.
Courage is having the ability and the strength to look inward to heal my wounds that have been carried for a long time that need to be let go of.
Courage is opening my heart to be vulnerable to someone who I am not even sure will embrace my vulnerability.
Courage is going through with something even when I have sweat on my brow from sheer terror and my stomach is in knots ready to blow. I do it because I know it is the right thing to do.
Courage is making a decision outside of the box, one the world will be screaming I am wrong! Yet I still make that decision because it is my decision as I firmly believe this is for my best interest.
PS I am also in the process of teaching my hair dresser to go lighter on my hair (sigh … it’s been a slow go …. I tell her cinnamon LIGHT brown and I get what you see LOL) and I am growing my hair to at least shoulder length. Oh, yes, the time has come to show how strong a woman I am through my hair. 🙂
Yes, Carol, I did think of that as well. When I first began Petals I actually hid under my covers in bed so afraid I was in showing myself. I’ve come a long way since those days. When I post something personal as I did today, I still hesitate to push the publish button. I really do show myself here. I’m not surprised my “list” resonated with you! I’ll be over later …. Cats are my morning. 🙂 I was over last evening and was stunned by how much you post. I miss so much, my friend. You have so much talent! ❤
Dan, you nailed the number one reason why most people are so uncomfortable around me and why animals love me. Yes, I am a keen observer, and with that comes a Blessing along with a curse. I see beyond the ploys, the masks, the games. I see. This is also why hubby gets so angry with me as I say what I see when he tries to escape into illusion. God has given me this Gift, my friend, which I use many times here on WP, and why I live a very quiet Life. I can no longer tolerate the bombardment of today’s world. How “keen” of you to see this in me. I am humbled. ❤
So true!! I’ve had kitties all my life and love them. :). Hobbes passed away a couple years ago. He made it to 18. Next we are getting a Havanese puppy around November. We are excited to have a little furry spirit in the house again!
No kitties? Aw, what a shame! My eldest cat is 16 with health issues and the next is 15, again with issues. The time I am spending hand feeding them is precious. I pray that the both go quietly in their sleep so I don’t have to make that awful decision. I really think that after these babies of ours are gone, that will be it for me. I really want time to write my books and to get really serious with my photography. I have dreams of traveling too, my friend. For years I have given to others and put my dreams on a shelf. Lots of good things in store because I’ll have huge holes in my heart that need filling. Truthfully this is one of the hardest things to do …. Care for special needs cats. They are a huge part of my life and my LOVE for them goes so deep I get lost sometimes. I have a photo coming in a near post of Karma and Sassy that will make your HEART melt 🙂
LikeLiked by 1 person
Well I needed a break from kitties. The cat box really made me congested and for the first time in my life I don’t feel that way. Havanese are like cats in that they always want to be with you. They are love bugs! Hobbes had issues the last several years of his life. I had to give him fluids every day. You’re right. I hope your babies go peacefully in their sleep because I had to make the decision although he really couldn’t be here anymore. To keep him here would’ve been cruel at that point. But still…I bawled for a year! I still have his pic on my nightstand. So after your kitties, go travel and do the things that make you happy so you can be all you can be! Go Amy!!!!
It’s going to be a while yet, Laura. I have 13 …. Remember? Yet in the meantime I LOVE them, care for them, and dream my dreams AND learn more about my Gfits so that I can go ever deeper and wider with them!! I have Molly’s ashes and picture on my nightstand as well as Tigger’s and Benji’s. When all are gone, I will release all their ashes together. *getting tears in my eyes* Princess and Alpha are buried on our land. We won’t be doing that again. It is hard work digging a hole at least 4 feet deep. Yes, Laura, it is heart breaking when our babies leave. (((HUGS))) ❤
