I had no intention of posting today because I put together over the weekend a nice itinerary of posts for this coming week, all nice and tidy, ready to go to begin on Monday, not Sunday. Then today, as I made my usual run to the barn next door, I was stopped in my tracks. And I mean stopped.
There in front of my disbelieving eyes I saw my early Spring bulbs beginning to come up! Friends, this is January 31st, and it is unheard of for bulbs to be bursting free of dirt at this time of the year. My Daffodils and Crocuses have begun to bloom almost one and half months early. What this coming Spring is going to be like I have no idea, but I just had to post these pictures today to show you, yes I really do have bulbs coming up in my garden.
The shot of the Cardinal on our feeder was taken through my kitchen window with my Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 on full zoom. I caught that Cardinal with his mouth full of seeds. Is it my imagination or are his colors very bright for it still being Winter here?
The other two images were shot with my Canon and my EF 100mm f/2.8 macro lens. Pinch me. Am I dreaming? I sure feel like it. I have lived in this part of the world for almost my entire life and I have never seen this phenomenon in my gardens ever before. Was it coincidence that I chose for some of my coming posts for the week, early Spring flowers before I “knew” what was happening in my gardens? I think not!

Definitely not a coincidence! I hope they will survive the Spring frosts. Beautiful pics as always.

Carol, to be truthful, I won’t get my hopes up. It is just SO early and we have all of February yet to get through. Thank you for seeing what is happening in my gardens today. Hope you are having a good weekend. 🙂 Love, Amy ❤

It looks like it’s one of those things from global warming. You have a great rest of Sunday also.

Yes, spring bulbs coming out over here too for quite a while. But stopped growing again. It is so warm! Great picture of the Cardinal!

It definitely is too early. It still is winter. Let’s hope it doesn’t hit them too hard until Spring! Hugs 💖

Thanks for sharing the “bonus” photos Amy. I don’t think winter is done with us. February has the ability to bring a surprise or two, and it has an extra day this year. The Cardinal is beautiful.

Is not that Cardinal awesome? Beak full of seed … LOL. His color is so bright which leads me to believe these birds are already going into their Spring mating colors. I know all about February but this year we did not get the usual January blizzard either, so who is to tell what is to come? Certainly not me! And you are welcome for the extra pictures. I could not but share this event today!!! 🙂 Love, Amy ❤

I hope you’re right. We could use a break after last year. Last February was the coldest month ever recorded in CT! I don’t ever want to see that record broken.

I hope I’m right too. We broke all kinds of temperature records here as well last year. 😦

Sometimes, nature surprise us. Like today with your bulbs. Important is not to come a frost and kill them. Maybe you should protect them with something, Amy. xoxo ❤

Honey, these tiny flowers are so spread out all over my huge gardens I couldn’t possibly protect them, even if I wanted to. I’m hoping the temperatures remain mild, but I am hearing they are again supposed to fall. These early flowers are tough, believe me!! They may be only about 1-2 inches high right now, but they do survive cold and they do survive snow. How I don’t know. Honestly? I’d really be surprised if they survived. That is why I deemed it so important to get today documented as I did. 🙂 Love, Amy ❤

Ok. Now I understood. I thought that you talk about a little number of flowers.

(Smiling) I took pics of only one group of these flowers. I planted them in many gardens. 🙂 ❤

Wow! Amazing. I don’t have anything but mud and ice. It’s so wonderful to see them, really, it makes me feel hopeful. I love the picture of the bird feeder. Just beautiful.

Spring’s a’coming, Gigi. Almost! I’ve never seen my early bulbs come up this early ever! I’m glad this post lifted your spirits to give you HOPE. And what a shot with the bird feed, right? I held my breath on that one! I swear that Cardinal posed for me, deliberately not moving so he would not blur. Just wow! I know how hard winter is for you. BIG (((HUGS))) Amy ❤

Lovely pics, Amy. I haven’t seen bulbs bloom, but there are definitely birds who have stuck around longer than any other year. Amazing. They are all confused. ☺

I have a lilac outside the office in my home and I’ve been watching the buds slowly break and start to open…I have never seen my garden this early, this is really worrying.

Beautiful Amy. The weather has been a bit crazy – warm too. Your cardinal is such a beautiful bird – a splash of colour against the drabness of winter

And then some!!! The sky this evening looked to me as if it is April. I am keeping a close eye on these babies. I will be astonished if they actually flower to be truthful with you. ❤

Beautiful bird photos and the spring flowers too. Here in the UK spring almost seems to be here at times, with many spring flowers already blooming. Even the frogs are beginning their courtship early. Let’s hope the intermittent cold spells won’t spoil it all. xx
