The healing touch of water
the coolness of the blue
all with one Purpose
to Heal the Heart that’s blue.

(This image is my first panorama photograph taken with my Samsung Galaxy S6 Phone. This is what Blossom Falls looked like last evening when I was shooting pictures. It was taken when the light was fading rapidly, and that being said, I was extremely pleased to see how well this photograph turned out. Does anyone see where my first image was taken? If you do, this will now give you a good idea what 300mm shooting range looks like when I shoot long exposure photography.)
~~~~~~~~~
Now on to my stories …
Actually running to beat the darkness of twilight, I drove to Blossom Falls in Elma, NY with about 1/2 hour of daylight left to shoot. I was in the mood for waterfalls yet all day long I had waited for high winds to die down so I could go, and finally just as the sun began to set it did settle down. (Do check out the link above. It shows you the actual waterfalls in real time.)
You should have seen me! I had to wait one hour after taking my Thyroid medication to eat, and just as the final minute of that one hour was up, I literally gulped down a sandwich, chewing and swallowing as fast as I could as I got dressed. (not a recommended way to eat!) Flying out the door with all my equipment ready to go, I was off!
Now perhaps some of you might be asking why I did not take my medication earlier in the day. Wellllll, good question. You see, I was told on Thursday that my medication would be ready for pick up Friday morning. And no, I had no medication left at home to take. By the time I arrived at the pharmacy it was 2:30pm, the time I usually take this med. Lo and behold, I was told it was not ready but would be in 10 minutes. The 10 minutes turned into 45 minutes and by the time I got back home I took this med one hour later then I normally do. I didn’t even get an apology, just a “thank you for waiting.” You really do not want to know my thoughts on that!
So getting back to the original story ….
Drats if traffic wasn’t heavy on the very old steel bridge I stood upon, setting up my tripod and camera. I had no time to wait for a lull in traffic due to waning light, so as I held my breath I began to shoot my long exposures on a bridge that yes was shaking. (Don’t ask why I hold my breath when I shoot long exposures. I honestly couldn’t tell you.)
None of my shots came out perfect due to the vibration from traffic, but I still managed to get some stunning shots. If you who are photographers look closely, you will see the shaking in this image. Go ahead look if you want to but I don’t really care. It is beautiful just as is.
And, as I stood there waiting for my long exposures to finish I allowed my Soul to drink deeply the Beauty set out before my adoring eyes. I could feel the tension melt away and my Heart that has still been heavy regarding my Dad and Molly, lift to the place of Peace. My Intention is that the very same happens to those of you who are weary in spirit and heavy in Heart. May you be refreshed as I was. I also hope you enjoyed my stories! (smile)
Really gorgeous. I love the purpley blue of the top frame. I know you must have used some kind of effect to get that one. The other is terrific too. Is some of it freezing over already? I see the water moving but it also has a somewhat icy look.
Good morning, Marissa. I was a wee bit under the weather yesterday so today I am answering comments. Yes I “fancied up” my image of the water and no the water is not icing over yet. That is the effect of of long exposure photography. Hope your Sunday is a good one!!! Love, Amy ❤
Thank you, YellowCable!!! Sometimes I am too hard on myself because the overall field of photography is just so competitive. With your words in mind, I am going to keep reminding myself that as long as I have done my best, that is all that matters!! I hope you have a really good Sunday!!! Love, Amy ❤
I LOVE the panorama feature …. it is SO cool! I was stunned by how that photo turned out because it was almost dark when I shot it. How I am learning all the time new and different and applying it to what I already know. What an exciting way to live Life!! Hope your day is a good one!!! (((HUGS))) Amy ❤
How odd. I just checked on my phone to see how many images I see, & I do see the both that I have posted. In my opinion, you will enjoy viewing my photographs much better on your laptop. Thank you for coming back, which I absolutely know you will. In the meantime I will come over to see you. Hubby and I went for a very long and beautiful walk at Chestnut Ridge Park today. Total time was a little over 3 hours which we managed to do in between our challenging schedules. See you later… Much love , Amy ❤
Thank you, Raewyn. The flying out of the door was for a reason because I knew I only had a limited window. I only managed to get about 20 frames shot. But those are for the most part, good ones. 🙂 May you have a great Sunday!! Love, Amy ❤
Oh I loved the stories! I could picture you flying out the door… First, I got side tracked to the motion picture of the rapids, and then this beautiful falls with music was lulling me to sleep… Eventually remembered I was reading your blog origionally. I love that ‘creamy’ look of long exposures of moving water. Try it with tree leaves on a windy day in the fall. They can come out like an abstract oil painting! I loved the panarama. You have got to do more of those! I wonder if you’d get the same idea with a 16 mm lens? Was glad to hear you feel better about your Dad and cat! Interesting post Amy! Hugs and Nibbles: D. o!o!
I just LOVE the sound and the movement of waterfalls. I find the combination to be so relaxing and healing. I’m so happy you followed the link because the music of these falls is mesmerizing. The long exposures were really long due to failing light so I got an extra creamy look …. COOL! I will keep in mind leaves when shooting waterfalls but that will have to wait until next Spring I’m afraid. All our trees are bare. 😦
I have a 17mm lens and I KNOW that it does not take a panoramic shot like the one I did on this post. This image amazed me as it was taken in near dark and for the detail that I was able to get in ONE photo. I did not combine a combination of photos … I think it is called stitching. Nope. This is only one image and I think it is really incredible.
Yes I am feeling better about some aspects of my life, thank you, Darrell. This year has been a very challenging one for me. I still have my days that the tears come and that’s OK. I just won’t allow myself to stay there because life is for the Living … and yes I SO LOVE to Live LIFE!!!
Have a great Sunday, my friend! Love and Kisses and (((HUGS))) Amy ❤
I loved the panorama of the waterfall and also the video. I was disappointed that the obligatory crowd of silly teenagers, trying to get across the whole river from rock to rock, wasn’t there. Still, perhaps next time!
John!! YAY!!! I too LOVE the panorama and was thrilled at how it turned out, being my first one and all. I did meet some guys who were fishing, but because it was getting dark, they were leaving. I’ll try to do better next time in getting those teenagers or some fishermen. (smile) Hope your weekend is a good one!!! Love, Amy ❤
Hi Ames! Beautiful pictures! Love what you did with the color! I once had a no digital camera that took panoramic pictures. I bought it on my trip in Alaska. It was so much fun! Just love those! I think it is wonderful how you are taking pictures using different devices and forms. You are very inspiring! Sending you my love and hugs of support for your healing path after the loss of your loved ones. It is a path laid with constant memories of love and one that seems to be life long. Loving you always, ❤️ Denise
Hi, Denise!!! SO good to see you, my friend!! Hope all is well in your life!! As for what I am doing, yes I am combining mediums and trying new and just experiencing a brand new terrain. I LOVE to explore and I LOVE adventure so why not employ both in my art? I won’t know until I at least try what I will create. I thought it would really be nice for all of those who viewed this post to see what my eyes were actually seeing as I looked up Blossom Falls from the bridge I was standing upon. That panorama feature on my phone is amazing. I wish I had one on my Canon. I’m sure the new ones do, but alas, not mine. So for now, I combine what I do have to create new.
Thank you for your Love and support. This year has been one of losses, near losses, critical illnesses, and so many changes. I pray that 2016 is a much more calm year for me and all of my Loved ones remain healthy and happy.
May you and your family have a lovely Thanksgiving. Bless you for stopping by today. Love, Amy ❤
I love that first shot, and in it I can see many things ~ mostly the wonders of the long exposure and how it can be a great source of self therapy. When I neared the end of your post, your writing confirmed this with the great words ~ “waiting for my long exposures to finish I allowed my Soul to drink deeply the Beauty set out before my adoring eyes” Yes indeed!
Kemdirim, I am truly honored by your nomination but Petals is an award free blog. I am not able to accept awards for if I did, I would get buried under them. So many people want to nominate my blog, so I have created a page at the top of my menu, whereupon I put each award and who nominated me. I am very very touched and I do thank you. I will make sure your link is on my award page. (((HUGS))) Amy ❤
