Yesterday I decided to bring my Canon 50D with me, as I headed towards a nearby local park. It was cold, and I mean cold, with the temperature hovering at 18°F. I had so many clothes on I could barely get behind my steering wheel of my car in order to drive. But I managed, determination kicked in high gear. Picture the Pillsbury Dough Boy. That would, um be me. LOL
I couldn’t decide where to go in this park, so I chose one place that has hills and woods. Equipment on both shoulders, camera bag and tripod, I tramped through the snow, up and down hills, huffing and puffing, muttering under my breath, “I must be nuts for doing this!” when I finally decided enough, I am going elsewhere. Heading back to my car, gasping for breath, loaded down with equipment, I was never so happy to see my car.
Now where to? I just knew something wanted to be photographed so I headed towards one of my favorite places in this park. I parked, got out, and the going was much easier. I had planned on using my tripod with my 17-55mm lens, but that didn’t pan out. As I am walking nothing jumped out at me that begged to be shot. DARN!
I then began to look closer at what was around me and decided to shoot macro. This meant I had to change the lens on my camera to my macro lens, which meant one false move on my part, either camera or lens would end up in snow. Not good. So, I tied my camera bag onto a branch, and very carefully, and I mean carefully, changed lenses, moving deliberately slow with every movement calculated. When I finally was finished, I let out the breath that I was holding.
I didn’t even really know if any of my shots were that good due to the face mask that I was wearing fogged up my glasses. You know, the glasses I needed to see my LCD screen with. I finally just yanked that face mask down and said heck with this I need to SEE! That did help some, but still those glasses occasionally fogged up.
When I got that drama behind me (no longer struggling with fogged glasses) I began to really concentrate and get into the mood of what was around me. I began to see shapes and snow and weeds and branches that just shouted ME ME ME, shoot me! Yep, a-ha, that’s right, magic happened again!
All images below are shot hand-held, in manual focus. Don’t ask me how I did it. I am shaking my head as I write this. Shots 5 and 6 were exceptionally difficult to shoot because of the breeze that kept blowing what I was attempting to shoot. That and the fact I was kneeling in snow in order to get these shots. I was so focused I didn’t even realize my exposed fingers were cold until after I was finished with the last shot, about 45 minutes later.
Now for the good stuff.
Please do enjoy!!! Some of these images are otherworldly, and all I can say is, my Dad really is starting on the job in a BIG way! These images are just gorgeous!! Thanks, Dad!

That is my favorite too, Celia. That is actually a type of branch that has tentacles that end up wrapping themselves around another branch. I am kind of thinking it is a vine of some sort. They were amazing, and you would not believe how long it took me to get this shot. But it was SO worth it!! Like minds and all that …. GRIN!!! Thank you, Celia. Love, Amy

I love how you captured the snow. You can really see the texture on the snow flakes. What is that coiled thing? The end of a tree branch? Your struggle for your art was well worth it! Loved it!

Marissa, I think that coiled thing is part of a vine that grows heavily in that park, especially in that area I was in. I really edited these images to get the crystals of the snow to pop out, for they were just magnificent. I have more from this shoot that I just might publish soon. We’ll see. I don’t like saying I will for sure, because the thing with me, I fly with the wind, and what my Heart guides me to do one day, is different the next day. LOL Love, Amy

Amy, I do this type of thing all the time. My body is strong and healthy. My adrenalin was running so high, I really didn’t feel the cold. Mother kept me warm. (smile) And as for me going beyond WP, truthfully, I don’t know how, I don’t know where to begin, or how to go about it. I don’t even know what magazines are still out there. A manager would truly come in handy to help me out. I promise you I will really try to at least begin research on where to begin and how to go about submitting my work. I mean it, Amy. Give me time. I’ve been struggling with a really hurting Heart. (((HUGS))) Amy

I am interested as to what you are pondering upon, Nx. There is no death … only Life. I was crying before and after I took these shots, just missing my Dad in human form so much. Since this is the first time I have done something like this, the results stunned me. I know my Dad is now on my Creative Team. (smile) Love, Amy

Nx, what I have chosen to do is to funnel, to channel my grief into my photography, especially on the days that the tears come. This post arose from tears. I was crying before and after I took these pictures. All alone, surrounded my Mother, out in the snow and with Trees, I let the tears fall. No man can give me what Mother can. I will keep sharing, my Sister, as best as I can. By doing so, by staying connected here, it is helping me not to fall into the pit of despair. And I am forever grateful for what you wrote for me, Nx. Bless you from me, all of ME. (((HUGS))) Amy

I never even felt the cold until I stopped, Kathy, and even then it wasn’t all that bad. I agree about the detail in these photographs … it amazes me! What my camera picks up blows me away. Who knew bark looked like this? The crevasses and the texture are fascinating! And then the snow crystals … I’ve never done anything like this, so for these to come out like they did, shows me I had “help”. I have more images from this shoot that I may put up on Petals. I still have waterfalls to second edit that are waiting for me. I’m trying to break it up so it is just not all flowers. Although if it were up to me, I could do flowers forever. GRIN!!! The swirly curly thingie??? Great description, fur friend, one that made me laugh out loud! That one was SO hard to get, cause that dang breeze kept on blowing, moving it, and my point of focus would go in out and out of focus because of it. I was patient, just like my KATS taught me. I knelt in the snow, waiting, finger posed, other hand trying to get into focus the curly thingie, waiting for a break in the breeze, holding my breath, making sure I was purfectly still …. then BAM! Got it! I wasn’t even sure IF I got it … couldn’t see my LCD screen … those darn glasses kept foggin’ up and that dang hat kept on slipping down wanting to get in the way of the little I could see. WHAZA!!!!! Good thing I live with KATS to show me what happens when one has patience. I won a prize which I gave to YOU! (((HUGS))) MB *giggling*

I still have more to go though…I’m going to do it again probably after our vacation in March. In the meaintime, I’m going to “try” and eat as clean as I can. I do the apple cider vinegar thing too. I love apple cider (with the mother) with walnut oil for dressing over my salad. 🙂

I drink the “mother” too. (smile) Cleansing can be hard on the body, so to do it, go slowly. Then eat as good as you can, just as you are. I also do Yoga/Pilates/TaiChi 2-3 times a week, in a class at our local gym. I believe in preventative care with all things health. And even when the body is less then perfect, you can improve those “imperfections” through diet and exercise. I won’t lie to you and say it happens quickly. The changes are slow and small, yet this too is good, for that is all the body can handle. We live in a society where we are taught to expect instant results. I’ve learned that the slower changes are those that do last. Hmmmm …. Are we having health class this morning? LOL (((HUGS))) Amy

And furthermore!!!! lol….but seriously, I did the 21 day cleanse and I feel great! Much better. I’ll do it again a few months from now. I need more cleansing. I’ve been eating so wrong and not doing much since my neck surgery in 2006. I’ve come SO FAR from my dark days in 2009-2014. It is a slow process and I just started it and it’s for the long haul and not the short. I completely agree with everything you said. I’m raising my spoon of fish oil in celebration! lol Thank you Amy 🙂
