A few nights ago, I decided to go for a walk with (of course) my Samsung Galaxy Camera 2. Friends, I feel like I am on camera vacation right now just carrying around this very light camera. What a delight!
Anyways … my intention was to take images of Christmas lights. There is a setting on my camera for night, so that is what I had my camera set to. I found out that after you push the shutter, there is a one … two … three second wait until the photograph is processed, wherein the one who is taking the pictures must become the human tripod.
In other words, I could not move, breathe, blink while this photo was processing. I’ve had lots of practice at this taking my macro pictures, so no biggie. Yes, I could have put my camera on a tripod (yes it has the means to do so) but the whole point of camera vacation is not to lug around heavy equipment.
Now mind you I could have brought my tripod, and gotten clearer photos, but darn it! I will pack light for this vacation of mine. And so I did! GRIN!
The following photographs are taken within a one mile radius of our home. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did taking them!!! (The last photograph you will see a tree that is still leaning from the after affects of Winter Storm Knife.) I over edited on purpose so it is not your imagination that some of the lights seem extended, especially the blues! I think it is pretty what I did. (smile)
Enjoy the twinkles!

Thank YOU so much. This was an experiment with my new camera. I’m learning. Some settings I had wrong for a certain mode to take pics, and those you will see on tomorrow’s Christmas post. (smile) Trial and errro. I am SO happy you like these. I do too. LOL (((HUGS))) Amy

You got some lovely shots of some lovely decorations, Amy. I need to drive into Richmond and grab some shots while I can. I went up there the other night and didn’t think to take my camera. I am stilling kicking myself. 🙂

I am getting into the habit of bringing my (small) camera with me where I go. I have kicked myself so many times, it is a Miracle I still have a butt left. Oh, I had some trouble loading your site today when I went to comment. I hope it is just because so many peeps are online right now. Just wanted you to know I did visit you but could not comment for some reason. (((HUGS))) Amy

Hello Amy, thank you for letting me know you’re having trouble. Rommel mentioned he was having problems, too. The comment button is under the Post Title. You can open the post by clicking on the title for whichever post you want to visit. When done, my ‘BlogTitle’ is my ‘HOME” key—look for the word orples in the ‘orange font’— It is located top, left. If this doesn’t clear things up, please let me know. If you hit the home button, you can cruise through all of my posts without interruption, then open what you want to read. I’ve also discovered if you click the picture, it will zoom up to full screen so you can actually read the words.
I hope my recent discoveries in Orpleland have helped you figure out what is what. I’m just now learning some of this stuff myself.
If the aforementioned doesn’t solve the problem, please let me know again, and I will try to remember where I saw the ‘control’s that control the comments aspects of my blogs inner workings.

Amy my love, they are beautiful. Thank you for taking me on a tour of lights, since I am unable to take the tours around my own town these past few years. All of my trips and views of Christmas displays are done vicariously thru my friends now, and you, my DEAR friend, have really given me a LOVELY GIFT with this tour. Love, Angie

Oh these are so beautiful! You also helped me as my camera has night mode. I have tried in the past to take Christmas light pictures but the lights looked like lines. Haven’t tried with my camera that I got but now that I know what the night mode will do maybe I can get them to come out. Thank you so much, Amy!! HUGS

Don’t forget, Kathy, when you use NIGHT mode you cannot move the camera after you push the shutter for One … Two … Three … seconds, THEN it begins to process it, THEN you can move it. At least that is how my camera works. Try yours and experiment to see what happens. Good luck!!! Love, Amy

Absolutely gorgeous Amy, and the first time I’ve seen you take pictures of quite this kind (otherwise nature and cats). Was it a challenge for you?

I actually did Christmas lights last year but not nearly as good as these. No, it really wasn’t a challenge. I’m going to try to add onto what I am photographing now so this coming year for Petals should prove to be interesting. (smile) Love, Amy

I’m sure it will be. The photos were lovely and it’s no surprise they were easily within your capabilities. To someone who knows so little about photography, like me, these are just things that come to mind. Thanks for clarifying!

Most of the time I am flying by the seat of my pants, Marissa. I honestly am no “expert” in my opinion about photography. Yes, I have learned tons, but to know the settings blind, for example, like the polished photographers can do, I am not able to. I shoot the majority of my work on my Canon in manual mode, and as I do I learn about ISO, F-stops, shutter speeds. I have yet to be able to put everything together and know off the top of my head about these things, though.I had some settings wrong on my Samsung so the pics came out reddish and blurry. I’m learning by hook or by crook! I bet if you picked up a camera and just played, you would be fantastic. Just sayin’ ….. LOL

Thank you Amy.. I had to take to my Bed Christmas eve and spent half of Christmas Day in bed also… and yesterday.. But today I am much improved thank you my friend..
Overnight we had 6 inches of snow fall.. not a patch on your huge snow storm.. but enough to disrupt the whole avenue as the menfolk dig out drives .. The roads are still bad they were not gritted..
I am still feeling a little weak… but much brighter for seeing your comments as I come on line to catch up a little with peoples comments before Christmas…
Love and Hugs and sending a Big kiss your way 🙂 ❤ Sue

I’m not officially here at WP but I wanted you to know how very glad I am that you are feeling better, Sue!! And hey! Could you PLEASE send some of that snow our way? Hubby and I have been itching to shoot snow scenes but we have GREEN here! GRIN! First time in my life I ask for snow, and we have none. Go figure. I captured some totally incredible twilight shots of the sky last evening, ones that I will put up on New Years Eve, with beautiful words to go along with them. I LOVE that when that happens. (((HUGS))) Amy PS I’ll be back on Monday in bloggersville.

Shuusssh.. but I am not here in Blog land either, although I am trying to constuct a post to post very soon.. The snow you are welcome too… We haven’t had any more, but a very cold and frosty night so the roads are still iced.. .. Hope you get a few sprinkles before long your way.. Although I do not wish you the blizzards you did have..
We have on our long range forecast been predicted a cold winter to match that which we had in the 60’s.. One I remember well, living in the countryside the weight of snow felled a huge beech tree a hundred yards from our home.. And it was the year we made Igloo’s there was so much snow on the ground.. 🙂 Snow brings us together.. as everyone was out again clearing and nattering on our avenue.. 🙂 Arrrgh maybe a feel a poem coming along!.. Yes.. maybe I do.. 🙂 hahaha..
Happy New Year my lovely friend.. ❤ See you soon… xxx

Edo Palace Mix
Takae, so simple, fluttering on the wind of vegetarian
existence, refusing to eat up more than her share,
presenting herself a second time, but finding no taker,
is less than joyous, yet remains so gentle. Two swans
glide, bobbing for minnows, mated for life, fed by ample
moat, seen by hundreds each day. Mostly Takae yearns
to be the swan on the right, head held up, pet of the palace.
Instead, like the sour gooseberry picker, Chekhov’s Nikolay,
she labors at city hall. Better, like the clerk job Kafka had, or
Poe’s daily grind, Takae, so full of wonder, but now resentment
too, as youth slips into middle age with no permanent necker,
glider, lover to snuggle with. Yellow petunias with purple eyes
stretch open to us, and I think that Takae will see this exact
pattern and find comfort having spent a day in Chiba
with friends that will, over time, form a second base.
A dream fulfilled erases previous disappointment. How to
meld dreams into the closeness that supports? Elephant ear
plants glisten under gray. Bamboo rustles, imperial reminder
that one generation can be the foundation of new style, culture,
love, beauty, art, strength, ethics, for centuries to come.
