Over this past weekend, hubby and I went for a walk with my Samsung Galaxy Camera 2 in my pocket, with my every intention to begin running this camera through its paces. You have NO idea how nice it is to have this LIGHT camera, versus lugging around heavy camera equipment. In all honesty I like how my Canon 50D takes photos better then my Samsung does, but, I still have yet to know all the ins and outs of my new camera. Give me time, and I will be as comfy with my new camera as I am with my Canon.
I had envisioned me taking pictures, with hubby pointing things out for me to photograph. It didn’t quite turn out that way. I attempted to use the Best Camera app on my SG but for some reason my clumsy half frozen fingers couldn’t get the darn thing to work right. The first photo I took and shown here came out Sepia, and don’t even ask me how that happened. It just did. That photo was with the Best Camera app, and the only one at that. The second photo, also taken by me, was on the night setting directly in my SG camera. All other photos as well were taken on the “night” setting on my Samsung camera. Only the first two photographs in this series were taken by me.
Anyways, I ended up handing the camera to hubby. My hands were just too cold and I had to put my mittens back on. Besides, he kept on telling me I didn’t know what I was doing. (Hey! It’s a new camera! Really? I thought to myself OK, let’s see what you can do, Mister! I don’t like to admit it, but he did do better then me.)
So, I began to point things out to him, saying, “OH!!! Look at that over there! You must get that shot. Stand here, Bill, right here, the angle is perfect!” And so he would come over to where I was standing, focus the camera, and with a wee bit of help from me guiding him how to position the camera, he would then shoot. While he was shooting, I’d be looking around me, taking stock of what next to take. When hubby was finished with the picture, and we both looked at what he had gotten, I showed him where next to shoot.
Giving credit to hubby, he did shoot some photos after his “eye” saw. Overall though, I was the “eye”, and hubby was the “finger” that depressed the shutter on my Samsung Galaxy Camera 2. Please do enjoy our walk together on the evening we strolled together, I being the lookout and hubby being the photographer. All editing done by me. (smile) Hubby still doesn’t know what lies ahead in the um, editing room! LOL When he does, then he will understand why I pull my hair out sometimes! Again …. ENJOY!

Thanks for alerting me to this camera. I still haven’t purchased one and planned on going to a camera store when I do and having them help me. I read some Amazon reviews and one complaint was that it wasn’t good in low light but these beautiful photos say otherwise 🙂 I love how it is kind of like an android phone, a tablet, and a camera all in one, sounds easy to use, is small and has a zoom lens. Very cool!

Katelon, I have turned off just about everything I can on this camera because all that stuff drains the battery. I plan on calling Samsung today to voice my concern that my battery does not seem to last long. You also have to set the camera to the proper setting in order for it to take pics like we did here. There is an “auto” option, but I don’t know how it works in low lighting. This camera is a bit more complex then I first realized. It does not simply point, figure out what setting to use, and then you shoot. (it will on auto) No. You must set up the camera in the right setting. It also has the option to shoot in “expert mode” which means you can shoot as I do with my Canon, setting the ISO, WB, and F-stop. You can do a LOT with this camera in the creative department IF you know what you are doing. Just passing along what I have experienced so far. Yes, it takes beautiful pictures. And the manual that comes with it, barely goes into any detail how to use the camera, but mainly talks about the others functions on this camera. I had to go online to find another manual that explains the camera. Hope you are having a good day today!!! (((HUGS))) Amy

Thanks Amy. Interesting about the battery as one reviewer said it had to only recharge after 4 uses. Too bad they don’t send you a good manual with it. I appreciate the extra info. Hope you are enjoying YOUR day! love, katelon

You guys make a great team. Sounds like you need the mittens my daughter has. She’s a photographer, and she has these mittens where the finger tip portion flips back. It can be closed or kept open with little Velcro tabs. When I’ve gone with her on photo shoots, my hands have frozen or I’ve chosen not to take some pictures. She’s usually ready to go.

What a great team you guys make and it would totally make sense that you would be the eye and he would be the finger and I always think women are more creative and men more technical and manual (but shame on me for stereotyping, right?) And who would have thought that one of the many liabilities of trying to photograph during the winter would be hands to frozen to work a camera?! Ha, beautiful pics as always!!

Thank YOU so much, Amy! In order to get the effect we did, we had to set the camera first. Yes, there is a “auto” function on it, but in order to get the shots I like, I am using the settings I want. So it takes some thought and of course practice, what works best, etc. I LOVE the last one too, Ame. Great minds again …. Love, Amy

I seem to be having issues with the battery charge not lasting a long time. Just called Samsung and reset my camera, and I am going from there. Other then that, all is a go! IF I still have issues, I will have to send my camera in to get it looked at. IF you knew the probs I have been having with technology, you wouldn’t be surprised this is happening. I’m not. Will try to keep everyone updated. The pictures quality is excellent. Love, Amy

Glad it’s getting sorted! I’ve used the little Nikon a bit and it’s pretty straightforward except i seem to be running out of internal storage which I think is down to android loading all my tablet apps so I need to delete some, but I end up using my iphone still anyway!

I called Samsung and they want me to send my camera in. No. I fixed the issue by buying two more batteries. As I have seen with my Canon’s batteries, some seem better then others. So, that all said and done, this camera is extraordinary in the way it takes pics. I have deleted as much as I can from my camera for storage purposes and for apps that are running that will pull on the battery. I bought a camera … not a smart phone. (smile) I have everything a smart phone does except for the phone part. I’m glad you are liking your Nikon. That is a good thing. LOL Oh, I also upload my photos from my Samsung into a folder on my laptop at the end of each day, and from there, I delete the pics on my camera. I like to be organized. (((HUGS)) Amy

Kathy, what helps me is the following train of thought. Before the NEW can come in to make this world aright, the old must first be seen, so that it will crumble then fall. Only then will NEW arise from out of the ashes. No matter in what direction I do gaze, the ineptitude, the uncaring, the violence, are exploding everywhere. Keep the Faith that someday soon, quality, caring, and LOVE are more prevalent then what is reality today. BIG (((HUGS)) from me, who has had SO many things go wrong lately. Hang in there, Kathy!!!

Yep, same thing. Although, this camera does have a shutter button that I can use with gloves. The reason why I got the Samsung is because with my iPad, I could not use gloves but had to use my bare finger. In that case, the whole glove came off. When I photographed that big snow storm, my hands were bare in 13 degree temps, and believe me, I paid for it. I LOVE this camera, though, even with some issues I am now ironing out. My fav photo is the last one too. I had to do a LOT of editing on that one to get the highlights to pop out. Thanks, Raewyn. Love, Amy

Cao, my camera equipment is SO heavy and in cold weather, it is NOT easy to carry. To have just this one little LIGHT camera is manna from heaven, believe me! I even have an app (Better Camera) on my new camera that takes pics like a DSLR camera. I just have to learn how to use all the settings. I can really get creative with this thing, which I honestly really like! It has “auto” function on it that anyone can use, but the more gutsy photographers who kind of know what they are doing (LOL me), what is offered is an amazing array of different settings. I also can use this camera manually just like my Canon. All that pretty snow has disappeared so now I wait for another day to take pretty. LOL (((HUGS))) Amy

Oh, Amy, such beauty! Both of you have enough talent to fly with eagles where it comes to photography. And just for the record, I love the sepia photograph as much as the color ones. I have often turned photos to sepia because it gives them the old fashioned look of the early 20th century, before color was invented. I use that mostly on portraits, but also on some of my Christmas photos, to give them the old fashioned look that goes well on Christmas cards. Huge Hugs and Smiles for both photographers. Love coming your way from Kentucky.

When I told him he best start learning how to edit his photos with PS Elements 6 (a program I have) he laughed, saying he wasn’t about to get all crazy like me. I told him he is going to have to learn how to resize and to touch up his photos, and that I am not going to do it for him. Hmmmm …. He thinks, (because he is used to film) that all he has to do is take the picture and voila, there you go. LOL He is in for a big surprise! This ought to be interesting!!!!
