Why Husband Is Getting What He Is (4 Images)

My husband’s birthday is this week, on the 11th. For his birthday I bought him a Canon camera body, a Rebel EOS t5i, a lower range camera on the professional aspect, yet a darn good camera. When this man was in high school, one of his prints ended up hanging in the Buffalo Museum of Art. Yes, he really is THAT good. Unfortunately, he was brainwashed into thinking he must work at a job that he really doesn’t like, yet offers enough money to live on. So, my husband shelved his incredible talent and worked his entire life at a job he not only hated, but today has health problems from that job.

In buying this camera body, my intent is to get him excited about photography again. He loves to shoot in black and white so today, I suggested he take my camera set to monochrome, and I take my iPad and we go on a short photo shoot together. We did. What he doesn’t know he is practicing for his NEW camera that he will get on his birthday from his wife, me.

I just spent the last hour editing my husband’s photographs. I have my copyright on them, but I want all here to know my husband is the photographer. The first image is mine, of me taking a shot of my husband as he is concentrating on getting a shot. My photograph is taken with my iPad, and hubby’s photograph is taken with my Canon 50D with my 17-55mm lens. Please do enjoy, as I know you will agree with me my husband is a very good photographer. If you are intuitive enough, you will see his hurting Heart within the images he shot.

(The portrait type photos are best seen if you scroll from the bottom slowly going to the top of each one. Not realizing these photos are larger then the screen, I know now to decrease on the over all size of my next portrait shots. My normal is landscape shots, so I do apologize for any inconvenience. I’m learning as I go.)

    1. Thank YOU!!! I plan on encouraging my husband to keep with his talent. Just picking up my camera not even really knowing what he was doing, and what I saw blew me away. Can you imagine what he will do when he knows his NEW camera inside and out? Wow!!!! Love, Amy

    1. Thanks, Cate. Hubs is also going to have to learn how to edit his pics. When he was heavy into photography it was film. So, I own PS Elements 6 and the software will be downloaded on his computer. Oh, yes, this man has much to understand!! LOL Love, Amy

    1. I know, YellowCable. The man’s talent is awesome. To walk away from that over money makes me so sad and to try to make up for all that loss, I will now be his number one cheerleader so he remembers to fly as I do behind the camera!!! (((HUGS))) Amy

    1. No, Timothy, there is nothing wrong with this camera. I agree totally with you. This camera is a great camera for my husband to delve into digital photography with, and looking at the images he produced with just a 5 minute teaching lesson from me on how to use my camera, it looks like he is going to fly. When he was into photography it was film. This is a whole new type of photography for him. My guess he will excel!!!! Love, Amy

      1. Photography is a wonderful therapy! While I never really got out of it, there was a point that doing more photography reinvigorated my life, and the daily photos that I did through my chemo treatments in 2010 really helped keep me going β€” that’s actually how my blog started.

YOU have encouraged me greatly leaving me with tears in my eyes. I am SO glad you beat the cancer, Timothy! This is my HOPE that Bill’s cancer (Nam) will be healed through photography. I know this form of art has healed much in my own Heart. Thank you for your wonderful comment!! Love, Amy

      4. I could not agree with you more. I know how much inner healing I have done myself due to photography. And with my husband, his cancer is war (Vietnam). It warms my Heart greatly to hear that YOU beat your cancer and what I have planned for Bill, WILL help eradicate his cancer too, just like photography did for you. Timothy, you have given me so much hope tonight, my eyes are just brimming over with tears. You have no idea how your words affected me. Bless you. Love, Amy

    1. Kimberly, I am touched by your words. I have been looking for the means to bring passion back into my husband’s Heart and I think I finally found that means. I was watching him as he studied the landscaping, and he really got into it. This is going to be so much fun watching him as he grows with his camera. LOL Love, Amy

For him to just pick up my camera with only about a 5 minute “know how” from me, and to produce what he did, blows me right away. I want to see happiness bubbling in him, Mark, and darn it, I will become his #1 cheerleader! I want him to dream like I do and to have something in his Life to look forward to. Happy Birthday to YOU, my kissin’ cousin in Syracuse. I will show hubs all these comments on his birthday!!! (((HUGS))) Amy

  2. A similar moment happened for my husband, his Dad told him in his second year of college, he would not pay for college if he was going to get an art degree. So, he went into geology and does use his art talent in so many ways, but he feels trapped a bit and has little time for art these days. I love his artwork and wish there was an extra day in the week, just for him to pursue his creative needs as consistently as his professional demands require of him.
Your enthusiasm and joy for your husbands birthday is so sweet. I hope his camera lens opens up a beautiful window that needed a little push to open but once it is, it doesn’t need to close again! Exciting.

His “eye” is vastly different from mine, yet he too has the Gift of having the “eye”. Yes, he is natural just like me ….. Can you tell I am really excited about his birthday??? 1. Raewyn, the “jury” will be in with the verdict whether he likes his new camera on Thursday. Of course I had to open the box and bag to check it out, and wow, this camera body is so much lighter then mine, and smaller. Now he did say my camera was heavy yesterday so I am hoping this is a plus in my favor. Not as many buttons as mine has and yep, he complained my camera is too complicated … another plus? I’ve got a new camera ready to start taking pics of his face when he opens his gifts. Santa came early for me … I bought me a LIGHT point and shoot camera so I don’t have to use my heavy iPad. 1. Today, my dear friend, I am showing my husband all the comments under this post. He is still sleeping right now, but to begin the festivities I have his birthday card propped up on his nightstand along with his glasses. All his gifts (camera with carrying case and a few other goodies) are wrapped. His cake is finished. I could not for the life of me find my 8″ round cake pans (that ought to tell you how long since I have baked) so I opted for a glass 9×13″ backing pan. Overnight newly fallen snow fell, so we may just be going out today to “practice”. I really pray, Ngobesing, that this is a new beginning, that my husband’s fire for his passion of photography is renewed, and that he flies as I do. I’ve seen big changes in him lately (thank YOU for the prayers) and I really feel strongly that this is the perfect time for me to give him what I am today. I’m getting choked up. I will be posting some posts with pics regarding the preparation and the actual day of his birthday. I hope to get a really precious expression on his face when he opens the package containing his new camera. LOL (((HUGS))) Amy

I also would like to let you know that my youngest daughter shares a b-day with your husband. We are celebrating her b-day today as well. But she is only turning 2 so no camera for her yet. My oldest turned 5 this year and I bought her the Nikon S32 waterproof/shockproof camera. She’s been enjoying it but doesn’t quite comprehend composition yet. I’ll wait to teach her if she’s still interested in photography in a few years. If my youngest is interested then she’ll get a camera too.

My husband went outdoors like a little kid, all excited to use his new camera, when he began to get error 30 and the pic would not take. I called Canon and was told error 30 means there is something wrong with the shutter. We are so disappointed about this, and I am just a bit peeved at Canon. Honestly, if you have been reading my posts, it is like there is a black cloud hanging over my head, starting when I lost all my pictures.
