Since I have been talking about Niagara Falls, I thought a few photographs from Glen Falls would be enough to whet our appetites a bit until I can get to Niagara Falls. Keep in mind, this entire set of photographs from my second visit, are vastly and completely different from the first set. Some of you may not even like these images because there is much sediment in them, from the tumultuous waters. We had extremely hard rain over the Summer, and the photos you are about to see, are taken the day after one of the violent storms we had experienced.
I feel uncertain at this point if you will like these images. They represent a totally different perspective of Glen Falls, and some of you may not see the beauty that I saw. I would very much appreciate it if in the comments, those of you who view these photographs, tell me if you like them, love them, or neither. I am open to all opinions, not just, “Oh, these images are gorgeous!” Please be honest with me. I have many, more then the first set, of photographs to go through and edit to present to you, and if you are not really liking them, you will save me a lot of work.
These were taken at the end of July of this year. I really hope you enjoy them!

I finally am feeling good today, Lisa. I’ve been like a limp dishrag. LOL Another sunny day here (groan) so again no Niagara Falls. I will probably only be going to the American Falls. Now Canada’s security has been beefed up on account of Isis. I don’t like to focus on the world, but in order to stay safe, I have to. Don’t worry. I will probably shoot at least 500 photos of the American Falls and of Goat Island. When the day comes to get there, I fly. In the meantime, I chop wood and carry water. GRIN! Love, Amy

Wow…I love these photos Amy…there is so much energy and strength and ye, with a touch tenderness in some. Another precious reminder that even in the raging waters there is balance in the calm surrounding. Awesome! 🙂

Wow Amy! Really looked at these a while as it seems you are valuing opinions. I always like to see the gritty underbelly of things. Almost wish there was a gritty background to go with them, like gnarled trees or a cemetery.

I like them Amy. The sediment adds color to the water. It is something that most photographers may turn away from the scene. However, the photographs should also show somethings that people do not commonly see too 🙂

I like the sediment. To me, the water almost looks like it could be feathers, or some kind of fur.

The velocity by which the waters were falling produces hundreds of feather like spray. That is what you are seeing. I wanted to combine the silkiness with the power of movement in these, and I believe I have succeeded. Many more will be coming in these series. A lot of different perspectives to look forward. Yes, Chun. We had very violent storms over the Summer with heavy downfalls of rain. These photos were shot after a day when we had one of these storms. The waters are engorged. (((HUGS))) Amy

Amy how could we fail not to enjoy them 🙂 they are beautiful… I am looking forward to your visit to Niagara falls, when ever that may happen… I went to Canada in the year 2000 for a long coast to coast holiday to take in all the sights of Canada visiting BC, and Vancouver, Banff, Jasper, VIctoria, Toronto, Quebec, and many more places as we flew across Canada in an internal flight..
But we stayed at Niagara Falls for 3 nights.. It was a magnificent place and we of course had to go on the Maid of Mists the boats that go to the near the foot of the falls..
I only had a small camera, which wasn’t even digital back then, and had to keep it in a plastic bag, because of the intense spray.. The photo’s came out just fine.. But my memory is not just in the photo’s but in the intense emotions the water brought to me..
As I stood upon the Maid of the Mist.. I sobbed my heart out.. So awed was I with the mighty power of Nature’s natural Thunder of water spilling over the edge.. It unleashed something within me that needed to be cleansed by the water Amy..
I hope Niagara has the same effect .. As she cleanses and uplifts.. Many thanks for these.. 🙂 xxx Love Sue ❤

I had a response and my curser froze. Lost all of it. So short and sweet …. I will probably only be going to the American Falls this year and to Goat Island. Too much political unrest going on so much so that Canada now is on high alert. So, I am not about to wait for hours in line just to get into Canada. *sigh* I’ll wait. Amy, these photos show the power not only of the Falls, but also of the thunderstorm that caused the sediment. I love them, and can’t wait to see more of them. You’ve shown us what most photographers never show–the “dirty and powerful” side of nature, and how it can change the perspective of beauty. Niagara Falls is definitely huge, impressive and worth to visit place. However small waterfalls have their own beauty and I like them even more. The small waterfalls are more friendly and not so crowded with visitors. You can hear what it is talking, how it is changing every single moment, and feel its character.
Another thing about your pictures. I do not understand why we can not like them. Do you mean the waterfalls looking not good or pictures themselves not done well. If you are saying about pictures I do not see any problem, they are nice. If you are talking about waterfall there are two conditions whether you like it or not. It is like with person. Everybody can be nice, calm, furious, boring, hilarious, etc. depends of the mood. But if I like person I like with no any special requests. If I do not like I do not like. The same with waterfall. I did not see this waterfall in reality but on your pictures it looks lovely. At least I would like to visit it, it is not faraway from my place.

Hi, Alexander. I meant that people might not like these photos because the water is full of sediment. In other words they may not see the beauty that I did. These Falls on the day I photographed them were so powerful and moving so fast that they made me dizzy. I saw so much in small areas of these Falls, like looking at a puzzle and seeing individual pieces. If there is any way you can visit these Falls, go. They pull at my Heart in a very unique way. These waters that day were roaring, and so full that yes they were absolutely furious. I have many more yet to come. I do like them, really I do! but a bit scary. A strange anecdote I´m going to tell you. Out of the 7 people that felt into the falls only one survived(that´s why I try to not get to near to them, better watch pictures of them) and the guy that survived out of the 7 “fallers” well that guy died 7 years latter after he slipped in the street and hit his head on the side of the road. Not kidding, so beautiful cool pictures and you see the power of mother earth there without a doubt.
But knowing that story about the guy that felt and survived to later die in a stupid way…..bad omen if you ask me 😉

I am careful, Charley, I promise you. Keep in mind I have a powerful zoom lens that I am using with these. The closeness felt was through my camera. And some others where I was close, I was behind a steel fence. Safety above all else. I don’t take unnecessary chances. When I felt fear on our motorcycle, I said time to quit. And I did. I have too much to loose if I did anything stupid. (((HUGS))) Amy

The power must have been something! I love the negative ion charge of thundering falls – it envelopes the whole body. Did you experiment with different shutter speeds? It would be interesting to have a post comparing different settings and showing the effects.
