This past Sunday evening, (September 28th) my husband and I spent some time together at Chestnut Ridge Park for two purposes in mind. One, we both have been working very hard lately, and so we wanted to enjoy time at one of our favorite places, a huge hill that affords a panoramic view for miles and miles. Second, I of course had camera in hand to photograph the foliage. I was so sure I only needed one lens and for the first time ever when on a photo shoot, I left my backpack in the trunk of the car, not taking it with me.
Yep, you know what is coming. I was slapped silly on the side of the head for being so sure I only needed one lens. I brought my 70-300mm lens along with my tripod to shoot the foliage, and as I did, an event happened that just about sent me to my knees. In fact, I was so blown away, I whispered, “I feel like I am standing on Holy Ground.”
No time did I have to run, and I mean run, back to the car to get my 17-55mm lens so that I could record the entire sky. For above me, as I was shooting foliage, the sky exploded in the deepest reds I have ever seen. And I mean ever. Even my husband’s jaw dropped, and he is not easily impressed . Later he said that the rays of that Light did something to us, for the next day both of us were just so out of it. Now, for he to say something like that (something I would say), you have to believe me when I say to you this sunset was the most dramatic we have ever seen.
So, I did my best with the lens I had, my 70-300mm lens. Before each photograph, I am going to have the actual time I took this picture to show you how fast this sunset unfolded. As for the last four photos you will see Lake Erie and the skyline of Buffalo, NY. The last two photographs are my first experiences using “Bulb” and I know they are not as sharp or as good as I could have gotten them. It will take practice for me to learn how long to hold the shutter for shots as you are about to see.
At any rate, know I did my best to convey to you this incredible, once-in-a-life-time event. Father Sky exploded with Drama and Passion for anyone to witness, and witness it I did along with some other people who had their cameras out as well. I was the only one with a camera on a tripod. All other cameras being used were Smart Phones. What am I missing? No heavy backpacks just a small very light very small phone camera. *sigh*
And oh yes, this taught me no matter what I think, I will always from now on bring that heavy backpack with me to the exact sight where I am shooting. How arrogant of me to think I knew more then Mother Nature. She showed me! And now I show you! Please do enjoy!
I have the comments open which I do plan on answering up through the weekend. This will be my last post for this week.
Thank you from the bottom of my Heart for viewing my work. Bless you! Love, Amy

Our farm is located near the Coast of North Carolina so I am up before dawn most days years round. Whenever I see clouds in the pre-dawn sky, I grab my camera and head for the fields if I’m on the farm or the beach if I’m there. You need to get there before first light. As the sun rises below the horizon and its rays reflect off the clouds, the light show is spectacular but its rather quick. I see quite a few of these dawns on the farm, fewer on the ocean for some reason but when everything lines up correctly it is absolutely spectacular. Your shots are fabulous. Moral of the story…always put a wide angle on your camera before you go to bed at night. Cheers!!
