A Few Moments Ago …. (3 MACROS)

Yes, I am laughing! Here I am telling you I am going to be starting to close up my gardens, and I am STILL here! Well!!! A few moments ago, something happened I have NEVER seen before in my life. A BLUE HERON strolled right across our backyard and even with me frantically running for my camera that has my macro lens on it, and going to the window with the greatest of care, I did NOT disturb him. I am speaking of a bird who spooks when you move 100 yards from him, much less 30 feet away! This is blowing my mind, my friends!

Please note the following pictures were taken with my macro lens as I scrambled as fast as I could to get the right settings. (I should have just put the darn thing on automatic! DUH!) And I was shooting through glass and screens. But, even though the photos are not crystal clear, you are about to see a phenomenon that I consider way out of the norm for a Blue Heron.

And here are those photos. Enjoy!!!! Now, hopefully with no further interruptions, I can get outside to my gardens as planned!!

    2. LOL For ME or for US? How about both, Lorrie? I plan on reading what Blue Heron means. For this bird to come in this close, there is a LOUD message for ME. I am on break, sweating like a um pig, no I mean glistening, catching my breath. Though it is still hot here, the farmers and gardeners AND birds are saying COLD September. I would rather sweat then be freezing. So I am starting today closing things down. The last will be my Roses. They might bloom up into October IF I am lucky!!! Have a great day, friend!!! Love, Amy

    Just a side note …I am out for my afternoon walk at work. I just saw a white heron in the little creek I pass everyday. This is only the second time I’ve seen it in two years. When I tried to pull out my cell phone to snap a picture, it flew away:-(

    1. So you really know how sensitive these birds are and the smallest movement or noise will startle them and they will instantly be in the air. Why this bird did not startle is totally beyond me.     1. Way cool, Melissa, something that happens and you say “pinch me” this really isn’t happening! Birds, insects, even animals are acting like cold is coming … so what this heron was doing is totally beyond me. I have never seen this one so close, and he didn’t even freak, or break stride even though I know he saw me move and heard me as well. I dunno.     1. Thank YOU, Laura!!!! The way my hands were fumbling it is a miracle I got one good image. I was pleasantly surprised that my macro lens did this well. For this Blue Heron to come in this close I wonder why. He kept looking at the wooded area as if seeking something, then looking at me … turned the corner and kept on walking down the entire length of our wild area, still looking in the direction towards the wooded area. It’s a mystery, probably one I will never get the answer to. Hope you are feeling good!!!! (((HUGS))) Amy

      2. So glad I could entertain you while you are recouping, Laura. You will be back to your camera before you know it. This is is THE very reason I dream of having two camera bodies … when an event like today happens. I had NO time to change lenses, much less much time to set the appropriate settings. And yep, I always tend to forget automatic too. LOL Force of habit of going where I usually do and block out everything else. LOL (((HUGS))) Amy on lunch break about to go to farmer’s fields for horse manure. YIPPEEEEEE!!!!! FUN? Wow!!!! GRIN!

      2. *sad face* No more visitors came to see me, Kathy. And I had another surprise. The peeps next door who have the horse, don’t really care for this horse well. Last year this horse’s friend died (another horse) and this year, this horse hasn’t even been in the pasture. All she does is stand in one place and poops there. There is like this wall of poop and no way am I going to dig through that. So, no horse manure this year, and now I know the horse next door is severely depressed. Darn it!! I could just cry. These people are so in the dark about animals. I am the one who stopped the litter after litter of starving neglected queens, and who took in many of the kittens as my own. I could go on, Kathy, but needless to say, I was shocked when I saw this horse today. How my Heart went out to her! xx Amy

    1. I’m sure it is a sign, but what? When something like this happens, I pay attention. I read what Blue Heron means, but it just didn’t strike me as a message for me. I’m clueless right now.     1. OH how you make me laugh!! If you knew you I was fumbling and bumbling just to get to my camera which ONLY had my macro lens on it. This is WHY I wish for two camera bodies. I did not have time to change lenses. I could barely THINK what settings to put my camera on, especially with a macro lens on it. How I would LOVED to have a zoom lens at that moment. Maybe for Christmas Santa will bring me another camera. Not holding my breath though. LOL (((HUGS))) Amy

    1. Anything!!! Just give me a CAMERA!!! Hubs actually had to nudge me and say GET THE CAMERA, AMY, because I could NOT believe my eyes. I didn’t want to take my eyes off of this beautiful bird.     1. We actually have Blue Herons here, Mom, in the creeks. He was acting very strange as though looking for something or someone. Never in my life would I dream of seeing a Blue Heron in our backyard! These birds just don’t do this! As you can tell, I am still boggled! Love, Amy

  20. The operation of this heron is cute. 🙂
    This heron is strong wariness. So it is hard to shoot such photos.

    Now, here is 10:00 in the morning.

    1. Here it is 9:30 at night. I am just about ready to wrap things up for the day on here. I am so honored by your comment about this Heron. I ran as quietly as I could to my camera and moving like I was under water SLOW. I didn’t want to startle him. And yes!!! DARN!! I succeeded in getting him on an image! Thank you SO much for your words. Wow. Thank YOU!!!! If you could have seen me fumbling around, thinking frantically what F/stop to put the camera on with a macro lens on it …… my fingers were flying, my eyes peeled on that bird, and hoping my light meter would balance so I could shoot.         I think it is important to “wait” like that.

      2. With wind blowing it is not possible to get a clear picture. Things blur due to movement. Sometimes I am in very difficult positions close to the ground, while waiting for the wind to stop and I have to remember to breathe. When I begin to shake, I stand back up, stretch, and get right back into that postition ready ready ready for that snap! I call it “Garden Yoga”. LOL So yes I waited until the winds calmed down. And yes, I did get rest last night, Chun, thank you. I slept well. And now am ready for a new day. (((HUGS))) Amy

        I’m imagining the appearance of your yoga.
        Macro shooting in adverse conditions will struggle. And while the yoga, you are staring at the flowers a lot more than anyone else.
        And the result, your friends will enjoy the beautiful photograph.

    1. Now THAT makes sense. I read another book what Heron means and it did not make much sense to me. Wow!!! SO now I have Heron as a totem! The thrill that is my Heart because Heron chose to come to me. If I did not have the determination I have and if I did not rely on myself for all that I do, I would not even be close to being who I am today, nor regarding what I am doing today as well.   22. What an awesome gift that heron was! And you are already getting the gardens ready for fall. That gave me a jolt. This has been the busiest summer I can remember. Of course Florida doesn’t have those beautiful leaves and fall weather. It will be warm here probably into October. Have a wonderful day, Amy.

    1. It is still warm here, Suzie, but the grapevine is saying, very cold September here. So I would rather sweat, I mean glisten, now, then freeze later. Now, just now, I was outside, and I was shocked to my bones. The ground roses that were looking like they were going down, NOW have hundreds of buds on them. Say what? Nature is NOT acting right this year! Darn! Now what do I do? Wait? I’ve been seeing signs of Fall, but now flowers are beginning to bloom again? *sigh* Bees are finished with the Lavender which is another sign of Fall. I give up! I’m getting too many crossed messages. Hmmmm…… Perhaps time to focus on Niagara Falls? Could be, could very well be. I do feel the water tug again.     And now seriously. That is unusual and for that kind of birds. It found something interesting. But the most important thing it was safe to stay on your backyard. The bird felt peace in that place and trusted you.

    1. I have a “sanctuary” here, Alexander, and if this bird doesn’t show that, I don’t know what will. Yes, Peace is here. I will buy a lottery ticket just because of this.   25. What a great interruption you had, Amy! As you know, I love to take pics of these guys…today not much luck as I was rustling the grass too much when I went through the bushes down to the water where he was wading…he was gone before I had a clear sight.

    1. Linda, if you are talking about the third photo, that is reflection from the glass I was shooting through. There is your painting. And the spotlights I believe is the sun through the pine needles of the tree he is standing under. I think that is what you are referring to. LOL Love, Amy

And the sun shining on the heron is a wonderful natural spotlight, and something photographers dream of. So you’re spot on.

      2. Linda, I got LUCKY. I’m serious. I was working so fast with settings, hoping I nailed it with a macro lens, that I just snapped away. Honest. This bird appeared out of nowhere, my jaw dropped, I was rooted to the spot, hubs had to tell me GET YOUR CAMERA and I ran. Thinking furiously when I got to it WHAT SETTINGS? Fingers flying on knobs, getting the light meter where I wanted ….. getting my reading from the Heron itself …. it was pretty nutso. I suppose with all the practice I have had, that reflex comes into play, and I “know” just what to do. BIG (((HUGS))) to you with all you are going through. BIG ONES!!! xx Amy
